Monday FITNESS TREK 8-10 Miles Forest Park

  • Feb 17, 2014 · 10:30 AM
  • This location is shown only to members

START: Wallace Park under the covered area by restrooms adjacent to the off leash dog park at the corner of NW 25th and NW Raleigh. There should be plenty of parking along Pettygrove and Raleigh but no parking in the school bus zone on EB Raleigh between 27th and 26th on school days.

DEPARTING: 10:35 am

END: Return to Wallace Park.

DISTANCE: Typical 8-10 miles over mostly the Wildwood Trail.

DURATION: Approximately 3-4 hours

PACE: Variable from moderate hiking 2.5-3mph pace to optional light jogging in small stretches and some stair stepping.

My schedule allows for am jaunts into my neighborhood Forest Park and I'm looking to take advantage of it as often as possible to boost up my fitness level. You are welcome to join me and we can work on our individual goals together in good safe supportive company. Treks can vary according to interest and needs but the idea is just to get out on the trail, use it (or lose it) and work it. We sometimes like to grab a healthy bite in Nob Hill afterwards but this is entirely optional and according to individual preference, schedule, or whim.

Fitness Treks are currently held on Mondays and Wednesdays.

Your wonderful YES RSVP agrees to the following:

• This hike is not a walk in the park. You should be fit enough to sustain a 2.5 mph average, open to pushing it a bit more or less, and be ready to call this a fitness trek that seeks to incorporates stairs, dirt trails, steep hills, and some miles OH YEAH! If your fitness level exceeds mine then you will be MY inspiration and that's even more wonderful :-)

• Fitness levels vary greatly and easy and difficult are purely relative terms. If you don't know your average mph over miles and variable terrain, message me and we'll talk on ideas on how to get you started here.

• Please dress appropriately and be prepared for changing weather conditions: cold, wet, and/or shine. In mid 40 degree temps it's hot and sweaty going up (the fun part when you can peel off an outer layer) and cool coming down (the really fun part when you can put the outer layer back on.) Do not wear jeans or cotton, do dress in layers, wear suitable shoes, and carry water.

• I volunteer in this endeavor to simply share exercise, social activity, and the enjoyment of the outdoors with others similarly inclined. I am not a professional or qualified outdoor guide or trail expert in any way. Joining me indicates that you are 100% responsible for your own choices, well being, and happiness.

Fitness Treks are cross posted to give more flexibility and options en route.
