I was curious about the topic, and clearly the Uber decision lacked some rationality and quantitative data. One might of expected Uber to test Postgres with the new schema-less architecture, which they are now touting. If the presenter, included more material on Postgres capabilities to handle their new schema-less architecture, and answer the questions: How does Postgres handle a schema-less architecture for the Uber issues; Write Amplification, Replication, Connection/Threading, MVCC, etc, ...

It is great to meet up with other PG people -- sometimes you learn as much in the after-hours bar sidle as you do in the actual presentation.

  • The San Francisco Bay Area PostgreSQL Meetup Group

It's so easy for meetups like this to devolve into contests about who's more knowledgable. I think the speaker's modesty helped that greatly for this meetup. Would hope the focus stays like this, it's much more inclusive to outsiders.

  • The San Francisco Bay Area PostgreSQL Meetup Group

Lots of postgres gurus attended. Glad they brought it down to Truaxis offices last time. One humble guy unfortunately had to keep on raising his hand to mention that "uh, yeah, I also wrote that feature, too".
