When: Tuesday, October 13, 2009, 7pm to 9pm
What: The Mighty GUCS
Who: Josh Berkus, PostgreSQL Core Team
Where: EzRez offices, downtown SF

The Mighty GUCS
A guide to the essential PostgreSQL settings you need to know

Josh Berkus will describe the most important GUCS, or global settings, which most PostgreSQL administrators need to know to tune their database, log what's going on, and decide on special options. He will also go over which GUCS were added, changed, or introduced in 8.4 and what they are for.

  • Attendees will get an electronic copy of the 8.4 "Annotated .CONF".
  • 15-minute session on "becoming a PostgreSQL Project beta tester".

We do not have a food sponsor for this event, so if you want to eat, you need to do 2 things:
2. Bring $10 in cash with you
We will have Indian food instead of the usual pizza.

This meeting will also be streamed live on the web at http://media.postgres...
Remote people can ask questions there or in irc://

I was sick Tue/Wed and I apologize for being unable to attend and for not RSVP-ing out of the meetup. The topic was particularly compelling, and I had every intention of attending.

Very useful and timely. I'm writing an installer that has to change postgresql.conf, so it was useful to understand exactly how GUCs are organized.
