Discussing Jennifer Egan's A Visit From The Goon Squad

One of the few (arguably) postmodern books that have won the Pulitzer Prize, this relatively light read (certainly compared to, say, Infinite Jest!) has received wide praise for managing to both play with the literary 'form' and tell a modern tale of fragmented identities.

Perhaps most notorious for a chapter in the form of a Powerpoint presentation, it was described by one reviewer as "playful in a serious way, complex in a straightforward way, more culturally penetrating than a shelf of Don DeLillos"; but, please, feel free to disagree!

A definite winner for readers just dipping their toes into the murky world of experimental literature - newcomers especially welcome!

You can buy the book from Amazon in hard or digital version

Definitely coming around to the 'second reading' aspect. Reread the opening three chapters yesterday and certainly got more from it. Perhaps just wasn't concentrating enough a few weeks ago. Enjoyed the discussion.

Although a bit ambivalent about the book, I think I'll leave it on my bookshelf for now as one might gain from a second reading, maybe even a slower one. No matter one, the discussions are always as lively and interesting as ever.

It's was entertaining, mainly to have taken home a widen perspective and understanding of the book.

Not a very popular book with all our readers by any stretch, but by the end we had squeezed some juice out of the discussion I hope! Perhaps one that merits a second read?

Lively and entertaining discussion, if a bit one-sided.

Hi everyone, just a quick message to say that I have moved to Holland a couple of months ago, hence the disappearance! It's been all very sudden. Since I am planning to be back in London on occasions I'm hoping to be part to another postmodern discussion at some point in the future, hopefully after the summer for the Bulgakov one. Been missing the good company and talks! Hope you're all well. This upcoming meeting looks really good, have great one!!

Good to hear from you Martina, I look forward to hearing all about Holland the next time you can join us (which I hope won't be in too long a time!). In the interim, hope you're having lots of Dutch fun!
