Ostensibly a fictitious work of literary criticism analysing a fictitious poem, Pale Fire is it seems in reality a puzzle waiting to be solved, exploring questions of authorship, the source of inspiration and the nature of madness.
It has been described as Vladimir Nabokov's "most perfect novel" and "the surest demonstration of his own genius" and has attracted dozens and dozens of studies each seeking to understand the forces at work within. It was even called "the novel of the century" in this paean (http://observer.com/1999/12/the-novel-of-the-century-nabokovs-pale-fire/) to its "life-changing" narrative.
A book more than worthy of being discussed by our own group of literary enthusiasts, then!
