The Sierra Club’s Ready for 100 community mapping project and the Solar Power Now coalition’s Renewable Energy resolution will be presented to the Community Sustainability Council on Monday, January 14 at 4:05 pm.
Presented by Kathe Latham and Shawn Berry ( RF100 Greensboro) and Margaret Rowlett of Solar Power Now Coalition
Place: The Melvin Municipal Office Building, 300 W. Washington Street, Greensboro
The RF100 Greensboro community mapping project involved students from Guilford College, UNCG and NC A&T. Local and regional leaders were interviewed to establish a solid base of community information about the history of sustainability efforts. Through interviews, open public forums and dialogues the campaign is better able to build a broad base of public will for a just transition to renewable energy by 2035.
The Solar Power Now Coalition is a group of local sustainability organizations including Environmental Stewardship Greensboro, the Greensboro Earth Quakers, Green Drinks Greensboro, Emerging Ecology, RF100 Greensboro and the Piedmont Plateau Group of the Sierra Club. The coalition is focused on gaining support for a renewable energy resolution to create a Strategic Energy Action Plan that brings together a broad base of local businesses, faith-based leaders, city planning and engineers, civic and community leaders, parents, students and others in a deliberative process.
