Before building the product right, you have to find the right product to build. Here's where our human nature and traditional organization design can unfortunately work against us.

Lean Startup practitioners have tons of great advice on how to discover the right product, but even these practices can sometimes be hard to introduce to your team. Don't fret though, at the end of the day, it's all about helping your team ask the right questions and letting them help you find the answers.

    Key Takeaways:

    • 3 key activities you need to own as a product manager and what makes them so important

    • Practicing data-grounded & goal-minded idea triage

    • Effective questions that help you align the leadership and execution team on product goals

    • The importance of timing in determining the "rightness" of a product

    • Why articulated constraints can be your team's best friend in building valuable products

    Meet your speaker: Selena Hadzibabic

Selena serves as a Product-Expert-In-Residence for NYU Steinhardt and StartEd’s EdTech startup accelerator, currently comprising 9 companies tackling a wide range of opportunities in K12, higher education, career development, and lifelong learning.

Previously, she was the Director of Product at OrderGroove, a subscription commerce tech startup, where she was responsible for product strategy and delivery. When she was not improving MRR, LTV, CAC, and other acronyms as well, she was just wrapping her head around the world of retail.

Prior to OrderGroove, Selena spent 7 years with Ladders, a job-matching service, where she tried her hand at waterfall and agile, spec’ing and wireframing, following and leading. There, she had the fortune to work alongside a few doyens of lean & agile to figure out how to make it all happen.

Selena’s hobbies include parsing logical distinctions, playing devil’s advocate, and being overly verbose. For that she credits her Belgrade upbringing in a family of engineers and scientists, and the venerable institutions of Phillips Academy Andover and Dartmouth College.
