Culminates with Rally

2pm Sunday 9/15 @ Chinese Consulate

UN Declared International Day of Democracy

Dr. Wang BingZhang is the First Democratic Party Leader of China and founding father of Chinese Democratic Movement. Sentenced to life in solitary confinement in 2002, Wang is serving his 11th year of torturous imprisonment. Beyond the immediate inhumanity of such an extended solitary sentence, Dr. Wang, now 65 years old, has suffered multiple strokes and is in severe danger of losing his life in prison. His immediate release is requested on the basis of human rights and common decency.

Times Square Performance:

Members of the Democratic Party of China will spend the week of Sept 9-15 voluntarily imprisoned in a cage in Times Square. Participants include Dr. Wang JunTao, Chinese Activist, Scholar, and Main Organizer of the 1989 Tiananmen Square student movement. Dr. Wang JunTao served four years in Chinese prison for his involvement in Tiananmen Square.

Rally on UN International Democracy Day:

On September 15, the first major event by a large democratic opposition party will be held on UN International Day of Democracy, demanding the compassionate release of Dr. Wang Bingzhang and the release of other political prisoners in China. The event will include a simulated solitary confinement prison experience, where volunteer participants can see how long they can endure the conditions of solitary confinement. The event will include an information table where participants can learn more about the campaign and sign a petition to support the campaign.

The Democratic Party of China (DPC) was assembled in 1998 by democracy activists and former student leaders from the Tiananmen Square protests of 1989. In the same year, when the group tried to register itself in China as a political opposition party, the registration was declined. Since 1998, over 300 of members and founders of the party have been jailed, and a much greater number are closely monitored and harassed by the police. The basic principles of the DPC are: prosperity, fairness, democracy, freedom, rule-of-law, and human rights. The Party’s US headquarters are in Flushing, New York. Visit: and Follow: @DPCNC
