O que fazemos

Welcome to hiking with cameras--gentle journeys. I am revamping the Meetup to focus more on photographic outings with less strenuous hikes. I will be rating the outings as easy or moderate. But as I shift to this format, I will still be including some hikes that have an element of difficulty. I will be doing away with strenuous hikes for this Meetup though if you are interested in those please message me as I'm always looking for eager adventurous hiking partners.

Definitions--easy hikes means up to 3 miles with a gentle grade. Moderate will be up to 5 miles with some elevation gain. Anything over 5 miles will be regarded as strenuous--see note above. Our average hiking pace is about 2 mph.

The main destinations for the hiking are waterfalls, water scenery, landscapes, highland vistas, meadows, forests, and sunrise /sunset. Sometimes we hike straight to the destination. Other times we stop when the light says, "stop".

The events will also include social get togethers so we can commune without hiking. Sometimes after a hike we stop for a meal or drink afterwards.

In addition to this hiking group, I also have a travel group which focuses on travel for photography. On these travel excursions we do some light hiking. I am going to delete the other Meetup and combine with HWC.

Though the aim is outdoor photography, you are welcome to come along, no camera needed. Our group is known for its scenic destinations. It is not a photography teaching course, so it's best you know how to use your camera.

I'm also slowly deleting group members whom haven't checked in since 2011-2016.

Squibb Creek Falls, TN 4.4. miles out and back. Exploratory.

We will meet at Ingles in Mar Hill. Park over by the gas station. Suggested car pool donation is $5 pp. We will meet at 9:45 and depart at 10 a.m. on the dot (or close to it). It's about an hour drive to the trail head putting us there at 11. I put an end time of 4 p.m. to include a meal at the conclusion of the day. I don't expect this hike to take more than 2-3 hours to include photo opportunities. So if you don't plan on joining in the meal the hike will end earlier (aprox 2 p.m.) We will drive from Mars Hill to Erwin, TN, then towards Greenville, TN ending at Horse Creek Campground. As I haven't done this hike, it is exploratory but looks pretty easy. The hardest part is always finding the trail head. This is rated as a very scenic hike. The trail description mentions crossing creeks so bring an extra pair of shoes in case your feet get wet. Here is a link to the hike: http://www.rattreks.com/blog/rattreks/squibb-creek-falls-3-9-2013.html After conclusion of the hike, for those inclined, we can head to Johnson City for pizza and a beverage. We will carpool accordingly.

North England--a small area explored with a big history. Two full weeks.

****Before signing up for this trip, please ensure that you will be going. I will be collecting the first deposits in January 2020 (half the cost $600).*** Preferably this trip will be by car if someone (or two) want to volunteer to drive the rental on the left side of the road. If no one volunteers, then this trip will be via train. Price includes all the hotels with rooms shared by two people. I have reserved rooms with twin beds or two beds and the van rental. I have included in the price a trip to the Lake District (England), a tour out of York to the Yorkshire Dales and Snowdonia via bus. If we drive then I'll deduct that from the cost. What is not included in the land package is the airfare plus all extra excursions, entrance fees, food, drinks, souvenirs or taxi fees. Sometimes we chose to do different excursions in each town. I like to visit what is free first and generally will walk via taking bus or water tours. For gas, one person usually charges to their credit card and at end of trip we share and divide the expense. Average cost is usually somewhere between $40-$75 pp depending on miles traveled. The land package pp is $1200 pp. You must purchase your own plane ticket. _________________________________________________________________________________ The Itinerary Day 1-4.
