    Coldwell Banker Upton-Massamont Realtors

What we'll do This meetup is open to anyone interested in Wordpress: newbies, developers, designers and administrators. All are welcome. Agenda • Current projects (20 minutes) - Introduce yourself, tell us what you are working on at the moment and what you are learning about. • Problems and Solutions (30 minutes) - Bring us your current problems and we'll use groupthink to try to solve them. If you have a laptop to demonstrate your issue, bring it and we'll plug you into the projector. • Report from Boston Wordcamp (30 minutes) - Mark and perhaps others will provide briefings on the Boston Wordcamp held at Boston University in July. Learn the benefits and cost of going, what to expect and what we learned at the many seminars over two days. • Introduction to Wordpress CLI (30 minutes) - Mark will introduce users to the Wordpress Command Line Interface (CLI). With Wordpress CLI it's possible to do all sorts of amazing stuff through scripts, like set up instances of Wordpress with the plugins you want your way. • Decide next meeting topics (10 minutes) What to bring You may wish to bring a laptop to take notes or to share your screen on the projector. You may need a HDMI port if you want to share your screen. The conference room also supports Apple AirPlay. Important to know First, we changed the day of the week to Wednesday to accommodate John. Second, our location has changed, hopefully temporarily as our normal host Jared cannot attend the September and October meetings due to some surgery. We'll be in basement of the Coldwell Banker storefront, 112 Main Street in downtown Northampton. The basement meeting room is NOT handicap accessible. You must be able to get down a set of stairs. This is not too far from Thornes Marketplace. Just walk past Thornes toward Pleasant Street and you'll see their office on the right. As you walk in the door, there is a set of stairs to the basement on the left. The meeting room with tables and projectors is down there. It can accommodate about 20 people comfortably. 30 in a pinch. We are grateful to Coldwell Banker for providing use of their space. Street parking is free in Northampton after 6PM. However, street parking is limited. You can also park in E.J. Gare Garage behind Thornes Marketplace. The first hour is free, but it is 75 cents per hour after the first hour. You can walk through Thornes Marketplace on the elevated crosswalk. Once on Main Street, turn right.

In their cloud, your Wordpress instance can scale seamlessly depending on traffic, and you pay for what you use. But is this a good approach? What are the pros and cons? We hoped to discuss this last month, but ran out of time. So if you missed May's meeting, you won't miss this topic. • Decide next meeting topics (10 minutes) What to bring You may wish to bring a laptop to take notes or to share your screen on the projector. We've also moved from our traditional time on the 3rd Thursday to 3rd Tuesday of the month, in hopes this will work better for more people.

What does "Wordpress Hosting" actually mean? Is it any better than generic hosting? Is $10/month hosting for Wordpress a good deal? What class of hosting do you need anyhow? The best way to know is to see what hosts others are using and their experiences. In this tell all, tell us your experiences good and bad with web hosts. If you like your host, tell us why. If you don't or gave up on a host, tell us why you left. Anyone hosting Wordpress in the cloud? How much hassle was it? • Decide next meeting topics (10 minutes) What to bring You may wish to bring a laptop to take notes or to share your screen on the projector. We're back after a several months hiatus after we lost our meeting space at Northampton Community TV. For at least this month, we'll meet at the East Building at Greenfield Community College. Don't be intimidated by the drive. It's 20-25 minutes up I-91 from Northampton. Plenty of free parking! What we'll do This meetup is open to anyone interested in Wordpress: newbies, developers, designers and administrators. All are welcome. The agenda varies from month to month and the topics to be discussed at the next meetup are set at the end of each meetup. Typically we discuss current projects that we are working on, have a problems and solutions section where you can raise issues you are having and offer advice to others about their problems. We try to have a focused topic of general interest at each meeting. • Topic of the month (60 minutes) - OMG, it's Wordpress 5.0! - Like it or not, we've had Wordpress 5.0 and its Gutenberg Editor thrust upon us. You must adopt or die. Mark and John will take you through Gutenberg and what's changed in Wordpress, your options for using the classic editor and other changes under the hood. • Decide next meeting topics (10 minutes) What to bring You may wish to bring a laptop to take notes. You may be able to share your screen on the projector. We should have a projector and a computer. Important to know No alcohol or smoking is permitted on the GCC campus. There's a door on both the east and west side of the building ... follow the signs to Room 128!
