Triangle Innovation Hub has reorganized that the asset map which responds to a community need, and is beneficial to the entrepreneurship community and the public. Cyberscape Architecture for Dix Park | http://www.dorotheadixdigital.org/ How can data drive decision-making for Dix Park? We invite the local tech talent community to contribute knowledge of resources, tools, and processes for constructing the cyberscape for park visitors seeking wellness through park features, programs, and spaces. The first goal is to create a baseline of park populations with sensors distributed throughout the park to prove the impact of park projects as it grown over the next 50 years. Volunteers are wanted to shape the history of one of the world's few parks named after a women and dedicated to the cause of wellness. Red Alerts The National Weather Service publishes warnings for tornadoes and other dire events, and they include storm position, speed, and direction information - but nobody is using that information yet. Code for Chapel Hill

S Columbia St at Sitterson Hall & ROTC

What we'll do: Come out for a civic hacking session in UNC Sitterson Hall Room 11! We will be working on two projects (descriptions under 'Ongoing projects'), and new project ideas are always welcome! Sample schedule - 6:00 - 6:10: Mix and mingle - 6:10 - 6:15: CfA and CfCH Overviews - 6:15 - 6:30: Current Projects and New Project Pitches - 6:30 - 7:45: On-boarding and Project Time - 7:45 - 8:00: Progress Recaps and Action Items Ongoing projects: • Chapel Hill Crash Model: The objective of this project is to use data science to understand and predict traffic related injuries in Chapel Hill. The Town of Chapel Hill has expressed concerns over increasing instances of serious traffic crashes. In order to start addressing the problem, it is imperative to understand what makes some intersections and regions more dangerous than others. If we can find patterns in the data that shed light on what conditions make crashes more likely, it’s possible to take measures to prevent them. • Park Facilities Usage Tracking: Collecting data about Chapel Hill's recreational facilities is important yet cost-prohibitive. If the Parks Department knows how facilities are being used, they can serve the town better. However, proprietary usage tracking solutions and manual data collection are both expensive. We are determining how to address this issue using low-cost hardware and open-source software. • Data Stories: This new project idea focuses on telling Town-relevant stories based around or showcasing the innovative use of data. What to bring • A computer and some creative energy!
