This Meetup is exclusively for people working professionally in the WordPress ecosystem, whether as a developer, designer, trainer, or support person. We've found that our Help Desk Meetups do not allow enough time for the self-identified experts in the room to hang out and chat about WordPress and what they are doing. This Meetup is for them. If you are working with WordPress in a professional manner and know it well, then this Meetup is for you. Come meet the other WordPress experts in the area and network professionally. If you are a beginner with WordPress, this Meetup is not for you. We will also use this Meetup to plan and decide our monthly presentation-based Meetup which happens on the fourth Monday of every month. Beer and pizza will be provided.
Though Mike has been working with WordPress since 2008, he didn’t consider himself a true professional until 2012. That’s when he started his first job focused not only on WordPress, but also as a WordPress.com VIP client. In this session, Mike will cover what he learned (and unlearned) by working with the talented VIP developers at Automattic, and why it was vital to building and maintaining high-traffic, enterprise-level WordPress sites that are secure and perform well. All are welcome, but this session is aimed at beginner to mid-level WordPress developers, or experienced developers that are new to WordPress. --------- Mike Auteri is a Senior Software Engineer at Penske Media Corporation (PMC) who leads development for many well-known publishing brands on WordPress.com VIP. He’s contributed a few lines of code to WordPress core, written a couple plugins, and is a co-organizer of the WordPress Montclair Meetup and WordCamp Montclair. A New Jersey native, Mike lives not 4 blocks from a house featured in the Sopranos. Mike is a fan of good beer, hot sauce, and an avid fencer 🤺. --------- We order pizza and have beers in the fridge. If you'd like to partake, bring a few bucks to help offset the cost and to put in the kitty towards Meetup space upkeep and rent.
NOTE: This is not a regular Meetup. This meeting is specifically for planning a future WordCamp in 2020. WordCamps: https://central.wordcamp.org/ WordCamp Montclair 2019: https://2019.montclair.wordcamp.org/ ---------------- For the past few years, several people in the NJ area who are leaders in the WordPress Community have discussed the desire for an official WordCamp Montclair. It's time to start planning this for 2020. If you would like to be involved in this planning, please come to our WordCamp Montclair Planning Meeting that will be held every 1st Monday of the month.
Our Help Desk Meetups are going smashingly well. We can accommodate up about 40-50 people and we're full almost every time. Going forward we will be we will be having Meetups especially designed for those who need help with their web sites. If you are running a WordPress site and are having issues and would like some help, then this Meetup is specifically for you. If you are a WordPress expert, by all means come and help us help out as many people as possible. Please message the admins if you want to be identified as a WordPress expert and are willing to help. We will have 4-6 WordPress experts on hand to assist you with solving as many of your WordPress problems as possible, on-site and in real-time. There is free wifi at the space, so all you need to bring is yourself, your laptop and your problems. Note: There is no formal presentation planned. This Meetup is designed for people who need help and who want to connect to a WordPress expert who can solve their issues or steer them in the right direction to solve the problems they're experiencing with WordPress. Note: Please only RSVP if you plan to attend. You don't necessarily need to have an issue that needs resolving to be able to attend. We understand that people will pick up tips and tricks by watching how issues are solved even if they don't directly apply to their own WordPress site. As always, we‘ll order a few pizzas, bring some beers, kick on the fans (A/C being planned) and have a good time. Donations towards pizza, beer and acquiring an A/C unit are encouraged and highly appreciated. It's OK if you want to attend but only want to observe. We recognize this is how people learn. Given our time limit of two hours, we may not be able to solve all of everyone's issues. We will try, though. If you are seeking help, please come prepared! Please have your web site loaded in a browser (there is free wifi at the space), have your WordPress admin ready, along with a short list of issues you are trying to solve. This is a Repeating Meetup. It happens every 2nd Monday of every month unless a holiday intervenes in which it will typically pushed to 1st Monday of the month.
