Join us at our monthly meeting October 28 that will feature a presentation by Kin Hodges with the NC Wildlife Resources Commission. Kin is the District 7 Fisheries Biologist responsible for fisheries management in 11 northwestern NC counties. He will tell us about results of 2019 population monitoring of smallmouth bass in the New River in NC, and about what monitoring data say about year-to-year changes in fish populations. Kin spends a lot of his work time arranging for access to good smallmouth water for NC fishers. He'll talk about the work he does, progress to date, and about access to good smallie water in NC that you may not have considered. See you on the 28th!
Clearwater Lake is a 5 acre spring-fed "pay to fish" impoundment in the southern portion of Orange County just outside of Chapel Hill, NC. It is situated on a piece of property, known as Camp Clearwater, currently owned by the Chapel Hill-Carrboro /Capital City YMCAs. Clearwater is stocked with large (>1 lb) Rainbow Trout. Fishing is limited to eight people per day and is strictly catch and release. Fishing is available by prepaid advance reservation only. This is by far the closest opportunity to fly fish for trout for Triangle anglers. TFF provides this trout fishing opportunity as a service to its’ members. TFF does not manage or receive funds from Clearwater Lake. By reserving and pre-paying for a large block of dates, we receive a substantial per slot price discount. TFF has reserved 12 days for the[masked] season (November 2017 – April 2018). Dates have not yet been assigned but are generally a Saturday or Sunday. There are eight (8) slots available for each date. A "slot" is defined as one person for one day, whether fishing or not. Everyone on the Camp Clearwater grounds must have purchased a slot, including children. Walk-ons are not permitted. Slots for the[masked] season will cost $50 per slot if purchasing 1-3 slots. If you purchase 4 or more slots the price is $45 per slot ( same cost as last year!). The rod fee is the most reasonable of all private trout waters in the region. Slots will be available for sale beginning at the September 25, 2017 TFF meeting or by contacting Jim Cappy. If you wish to make payment by mail, send a check payable to Triangle Fly Fishers to: Triangle Fly Fishers c/o Jim Cappy 3736 Eakley Court Raleigh, NC 27606 Please include the number of slots requested and your contact information including phone number and email.
