Book Group / Self-Study

Ruby & Rails Project Group is at 6:00-9:00 pm

What do we do?
Tuesdays we self study or work on our own projects or you can find someone to work on a project with you. Thursdays we are reading together or you can work on your own or with other people.

Thursday is Book night
This Thursday we are going to start reading books together and discussing them. We are supplementing Cynthia Kiser's Cal Tech Study group by reading the discarded choices of books and those that have already been read there. Our first book together: AngularJS on Rails 4] We are reading to page 20 by March 27th. Please read the book and try out the code at home. As a group we'll discuss what you did and did not like about the implementation. What worked, what didn't.

The book is short. Only 3 chapters. Then we will move on to do Rails Tutorial together.

If you are brandy new to Ruby or Ruby on Rails, don't feel intimidated, everyone has to start somewhere. We will help you get up to speed if you are willing to put in the time. There are a lot of great tutorials to get you up and rolling even if you've never programmed before.

A Path to Learning
Go to
A lot of thought was put into setting up a path to learning Ruby and Rails as laid out in the Phases links. There are a lot of great resources on this site. Feel free to fork and contribute to it. It is a Middleman blog on GitHub.

If you are more advanced, you can have a dedicated study night and you can pitch in with your expertise when needed. We are actively looking for coaches and mentors so feel free to volunteer.

Maybe you have a demonstration you are willing to share with the group.
