Announcing a new Meetup for The Raleigh Ski and Outing Club!

What: Beginners Ski School

When: November 17,[masked]:30 PM

Alpine Ski Center
Raleigh, NC
Raleigh, NC 27616

2009 Beginner Ski School (# SK0906)

For the upcoming ski season we have a learn-to-ski program for beginners and for people who haven?t skied for a few years. Skiing and ski equipment has changed a lot over the past few years, so if you tried skiing in the past and had trouble, give it another try with the new shaped skis and new ski techniques.

According to the Professional Ski Instructor?s Assoc. (PSIA), the ideal ski training program consists of getting a new skier on the slopes for training three times. The following should help get new skiers up to speed.

Beginner?s Ski School ? dry land training # SK0906
The ?beginner? dry-land ski school consists of two sessions in Raleigh.

1. The first session (Wednesday, November 18, 6:30-9:00pm) at Alpine Ski Center in Raleigh covers the fundamentals of skiing, preparing yourself for skiing, dressing to stay comfortable in all conditions, and the fun aspects of going on RSOC ski trips.

2. The second session (Wednesday December 2, 7:00-9:00pm) will be held in a gymnasium where you will put on skis and boots and practice walking and maneuvering with ski equipment on. This goes a long way to prepare you for your first encounter with the snow and your on-the-slopes beginner ski lesson.

Price: $15 /12 kids 12 and under ($18/14 guests)

One-day ski training trip to a ski area

We will do a day-trip to one of the nearby ski areas for a day of professional beginner ski lessons and

on-the-slopes training. We will either (1) take a one-day bus trip to Wintergreen VA, or (2) car pool to Appalachian Ski Mt in Boone, NC. You will receive lessons by certified PSIA ski instructors in their learn-to-ski program and practice on the beginner?s ski slopes. At the first meeting of the Beginner Ski School, we will decide as a group what is the best place to go and the best dates for people.
