by his own desires\, and those of Lady Macbeth\, he sacrifices honor\, fr
iendship\, and ultimately his humanity in pursuit of power. Exploring ambi
 tion\, fate\, guilt\, conscience\, and corruption\,\n\n**Join us to discus

SUMMARY:Hegel's Phenomenology of Spirit (week 4)
DESCRIPTION:NYC Philosophy and Psychology Readers Community\nJoin us for w

ology of Spirit*.\n\n**Required reading for this meeting: B. Self Consciou
sness - IV. Independence & Dependence of Self-Consciousness: Lordship & Bo
ndage (Pages 111-119) - A.V. Miller edition**\n\nI plan to use the A.V. Mi

ing will be on the lighter side to give people a chance to reread the earl
ier sections in tandem with this week’s selection.\n\nThe Phenomenology
is a difficult text and I highly recommend to read along side Hegel (thoug
h not required) the accessible secondary lit\, “The Logic of Desire” b
y Peter Kavage. It can be found here:\n[https://a.co/d/02jcheHr](https://a

SUMMARY:Homer’s Iliad: A Slow Reading and Panel Discussion
DESCRIPTION:NYC Philosophy and Psychology Readers Community\nHi Folks\,\n\
nPlease join to watch our panelists discuss Homer's Iliad. Note\, there is
no way to participate or interact in this\, it is a live view-only webina
r where you can watch pre-selected panelists discuss the reading.\n\n### *
 *📖 About Homer's Iliad**\n\nComposed nearly three thousand years ago\,
the *Iliad* remains astonishingly relevant. Through the story of Achilles
and the Trojan War\, Homer explores enduring questions about anger\, honor
 \, friendship\, mortality\, leadership\, suffering\, and the search for me
aning in the face of death.\n\nThe poem is incredibly important as:\n\n* T
he starting point of the Western literary tradition and the most influenti
al epic ever written\n* A timeless meditation on glory\, suffering\, morta
lity\, and what it means to live a meaningful human life\n* A source of in
spiration for countless writers and thinkers\, from the tragedians of anci
ent Greece to modern philosophers and novelists\n\nAlthough the poem is se
t during the Trojan War\, it is not primarily about battles. Rather\, it i
s a study of human character under extreme circumstances. Homer examines h
ow individuals respond to loss\, ambition\, loyalty\, grief\, and fate. Th
e result is a work that continues to speak powerfully across cultures and
 centuries.\n\n### **📖 About The Panelists**\n\nPanelists were selected
via an application process before the start of this reading series. Select
ion was based on their academic background\, articulation skills and willi
ngness to commit to the reading. If you want to join the panel mid-way you
  can still apply here:\n[https://forms.gle/cX6Ct1Txnkg3hSzy5](https://form
s.gle/cX6Ct1Txnkg3hSzy5)\n\nIt will take me a week or so to reach out to y
ou and meet you to see if you are a good fit for the Panel. If you do join
\, you'll need to catch up on the reading and commit to joining each week.
 \n\n### **📖 Participation**\n\nThis event will combine a slow reading o
f the text with a recurring panel discussion.\nEach week for 24 weeks\, pa
rticipants will read approximately one book of the *Iliad* (roughly 20–3
0 pages). During the meeting\, the panel of readers will discuss the assig
ned text.\nAudience members can observe via Zoom Webinar. Audience members
cannot interact or participate other than viewing the webinar.\n\n### **
📚 Reading Schedule**\n\nPanelists will read the text slowly and careful
ly\, approximately one book per week\, over roughly six months. This isn't
a live reading\, the panelists will need to read in advance. Panelists wi
ll spend about an hour per week completing the reading in advance of each
discussion.\nI will be using Robert Fagles’ translation of the *Iliad* (
Penguin Classics)\, with Bernard Knox’s introduction and notes. You can
read any translation you like\, it may be fun to have differing versions.
 A [reading schedule is here](https://drive.proton.me/urls/RRP0FQQ5H8#X6psC

SUMMARY:Logic and Conversation by Paul Grice
DESCRIPTION:NYC Philosophy and Psychology Readers Community\n*Logic and Co
nversation* is Paul Grice’s landmark essay on how communication works be
yond the literal meaning of words. Grice argues that successful conversati
on depends on an unspoken spirit of cooperation\, guided by conversational
principles that allow us to infer what speakers really mean. His influent
ial theory of conversational implicature transformed philosophy of languag
e\, linguistics\, and cognitive science\, showing that much of everyday co
mmunication relies not on what is explicitly said\, but on what is implied
