For the hackathon we will be provided with a dataset collected by language researchers at the University of Michigan, Rochester Institute of Technology, and UC Santa Barbara. A survey was administered to present and past language researchers to understand the patterns of harassment and bias in linguistics and work toward evidence-based solutions. Results come from over 1,400 respondents. This survey builds on existing models from the self-inquiries conducted in other fields (Clancy et al. 2017); in addition, they give space for affected individuals to detail their experiences and provide solutions.
In this meeting we will dig into the data and end by sharing our results with the original researchers of the project. Data can be found on R-Ladies San Diego GitHub (https://github.com/rladies-san-diego/2019-01-24_harassment_bias_hackathon).
