4th Annual Up, Down, and Around Challenge

Every year we compete in a few adventure-style team relay races and this is the first one of 2014 - the 4th Annual Up, Down, & Around Challenge at Wachusett Mountain Ski Area. This four-segment race involves a 3 mile run, an 8 mile bike ride, a hike up to the summit, and then it finishes with a ski run back down.

Do it solo or build a team! I would like to enter at least one team so looking for someone to do the bike ride and another person to do the hike up. Monica will be doing the run and I will be doing the ski. Let me know if you are interested in joining us. It would be great if we could get a few teams into the challenge.

Segment 1: The 3-mile run starts in the Wachusett Parking lot, travels down the hill into lots 3 and 4, loops back around lot 3 and then retraces the course back to the base area. The run will be a combination of paved surfaces along with off-road terrain consisting of dirt and perhaps wet and muddy conditions.

Segment 2: Get a bird’s eye view of Princeton and Westminster in this 8–mile scenic bike ride on a mostly paved, but partially dirt road (1-mile section). You choose what type of bike you want to use!

Segment 3: How you get to the summit is up to you… hike, snowshoe, skin… just get there as fast as you can. And enjoy the views along the way.

Segment 4: There’s no better way to finish the Challenge than on skis. Ski or snowboard down the mountain, turning around control gates to slightly slow your speed.

Hi All, do you know if the results have been posted online? We had a team participate in the open team category but had to leave before 2:00pm. Anyone happen to take a picture of the results?

This was our first time competing in this four segment race. One of our friends and fellow randomite Audra is the race coordinator. We had enough to enter two teams - team one was Monica (run), Colin (bike), me (hike), and Sarah (ski) while team two was Amal (run), Debra (bike), Allison (hike), and Karen (ski). There were 17 teams in our category and team one came in 8th while team two came in 10th. It was a fun event that we will surely be back for next year.

So if we have two teams I will register both and you guys can pay me at the race. So team one is Monica, Colin (with my bike), me, and Sara and team two is Amal, Debra, Alison, and Karen. Does that work?
