What is your hiking experience? (e.g. how long have you been hiking, how often do you get out , where are some of your favorite places, etc.)

I've been hiking regularly since 2010, and am on #28 of the NH4ks (goal to finish in spring 2013). I get to NH about once a month, and try to hike locally in RI once a week. I LOVE the Whites! Favorite trails are Boott Spur, Airline, Carter-Moriahs...the list goes on. I really enjoy rocky scrambles.

What type of hikes do you like best? (e.g. day hikes, overnight backpacks, hikes that may involve off-trail "bushwhacking", etc.)

Most experience is with long day hikes and short (2 day-ish) backpacks--but it's mostly due to the limitations of my schedule. Would love to do longer backpacks. I like long (10-15 mile) day hikes unless the terrain is really challenging.

What are your hiking goals? (e.g. just like hiking, enjoy being outdoors, looking to finish one of the "lists", etc.)

Hiking is my antidote to my crazy work life. I love being outside in the quiet and focusing on every step. That said, I'm also trying to finish the NH4k footer before I finish residency next spring.

What is the most strenuous/difficult hike that you have done? What made it so tough?

Bonds loop starting and ending at Zealand was the longest. The hardest may have been the first hike in the Whites when my partner and I went up Boott Spur in shoulder season and there was a ton of snow still on the ground.

Do you have any outdoor leadership experience? Would you be interested in organizing and leading your own events with the Random Hikers??

I don't have any leadership experience in the outdoors, but someday I might be interested in organizing and leading when I've gotten a little more experience of my own.

Hi, I'm Melinda. I'm a runner, biker, hiker, and newbie rock-climber. I'm working on finishing the NH 4000-footers whenever I can get north, and are exploring the trails in RI whenever I have to stay closer to home.
