Beginners Friendly Rock Climbing Trip (ROC)

Climbing trip to Cathedral Ranges, suitable for people of all experience levels -
beginners and those who've never done it before are more than welcome to come!
We'll aim to arrive there between 9:00 - 9:30, and cars/drivers will be organised closer
to the date. There's a short half-hour walk to the cliffs from the car-park, where we'll be
climbing for the day. All going well, we'll be finishing up around 4 / 5pm, depending on
how tired everyone's feeling by then! There might be a short stop-over on the way home
at the at the famous Buxton Burgers for dinner if everyone's keen too.

Equipment needed:
* Climbing Helmet (bike / snowboard helmets are not acceptable)
* Harness
* Climbing Shoes

These will need to be organised before the Thursday before the trip (the gear room is
fairly accommodating, and is open on Mondays and Thursdays - see The rest of the rock-climbing gear we need will be
taken care of for you!
Apart from your own climbing things, you'll also need lunch, something to wear in case
we get some rain, water, and the odd snack or two!
With any luck we'll have some great weather and an amazing day out! Let me know if
you've got any questions and I'll do my best to help!
If something changes, and you can't make it along, please let the trip leader know ASAP.

See you all there!

As this is an RMIT Outdoors Club ( trip, you'll need to signup as a member on their website first (anyone can join, and is between $30 - $60 for 6-12 mths), which then also lets you get access to hiring gear (there's virtually everything you could possibly need - harnesses, helmets, etc), discounts, and a bunch of other stuff!

Costs are pretty minimal, and basically cover petrol and a bit to cover maintenance on the ropes & gear we'll be using (the club already has everything needed). Somewhere about $30 will cover it for the trip, and all you'll need then is to organise and food, etc for yourself.

Sign up via their site ( for the trip) so we have all your information, and the organiser it will be in touch with some more details during the week prior (including organising cars, etc).

My apologies if there's anything I've left out in the description - please let me know if anyone has any questions - more than happy to help!

    Sorry, I'm new in town. Where are you meeting? Is it possible to get there by public transport? (I live in Glen Iris). I already registered the trip in the ROC website, but I'm not sure if that worked. Thank you and I hope to see you there!

      Hi Catalina,
      Best approach would be to get in touch with the trip organiser themselves - their details are on the ROC trip page ... they'll be able to tell you pretty quickly what the plans are and so-on if they haven't already.
      Hope it works out for you!

    Are there going to be any more of these? I won't be in Melbourne now until March 1st!

    • Victor has a list of the upcoming trips ... at this stage there's roughly a trip every weekend for the next few months at least
