Jim,

Just moved back to the area but been climbing outdoor local for years.  If you need help organizing outdoor trips keep me in mind - have equipment for top rope and lead, can set-up two routes for you and I'm dying to get back out of the gym as well.
Cheers,
Scott

Hi All
I just wanted to send out this message to everyone letting them know that I am stepping down as the organizer for this meetup group. It has been a great two years, and I have met a lot of great people. Either Adam or Tim will probably become the next Organizer. I may stay on as an assistant organizer.

The main reason I am leaving after two years, is time and direction of the group. When I started this group, it was more for outdoor top roping and to teach beginners proper techniques and get them interested in the sport. I never intended the group to be mostly indoor gym climbing. I don't care for gym climbing. I do it on occasion to stay in shape, but the different rules and teachings of the gyms in this area bother me at times. I have opted to teach people proper technique outdoors, but it gets difficult to unteach bad habits set in place by gyms.

I also set up this meetup to be more social. When I moved down to VA, I didn't know anyone. This group was a great way to meet new friends and people to hang out with. Early on we had more parties, and did more things together than just climb. In recent months, it has been solely gym climbing and has lost the social atmosphere.

I will still be running outdoor climbing events, and anchoring classes throughout the summer. I will either do them through this group, or one of my two adventure groups. With a new job, I am doing more traveling, so unfortunately I can not run events every weekend like I used to, but I will try to get in one or two a month. Also I run paintball, shooting, and golfing events for my other groups.

Thanks to all that have climbed outdoors with me and to anyway that I had the privilege to teach. Anyone who wants my contact info can email me and I will be happy to give it out.

Thanks for a great run

Jim
