Climb at Vantage

The Climbing: The 5.6 to 5.10 range is roughly what we'll be aiming at (there's plenty of diversity there for everyone's skill level). Top rope or lead. Beginners, intermediate, advanced, all are welcome whether you've been outdoors before or not. Come for the whole weekend or just for one of the days.

Getting there: Take I-90, jump off at Exit 143. Take the first left onto Silica Rd SW and then it's the first left onto Vantage Road (there's a home and a bunch of trees on the corner).

Saturday

The Plan: We'll be getting there around 10am and will play at the Feathers for a bit to give everyone time to get there. If all is going well, a trip to Sunshine Wall might be in order. (Be advised, you need a Discover Pass in order to park at Vantage).

The Evening: Campfires, cooking, chilling, conversing (maybe some night climbing, bring a headlamp if so).

Sunday

The Plan: For the early risers, a warm up at the Feathers if you fancy it and then a hike to Sunshine Wall or maybe Riverview Columns or Tomato Wall where we'll spend the rest of the day.

Communications

I'll email all the rsvp-ers nearer the date and we can trade numbers to ensure late arrivals or lostee's (it happens) can locate us or catch up or get directions (if I don't reply immediately give it a little while, I might be climbing, belaying someone, or just out of breath from hiking)

Basically when you see the champagne colored Toyota Corola with the 'LA County Coroner' sticker you're in the right place. At the crags look for the 'Union Jack' painted climbing helmet.

Stuff to Bring

Essentials: Harness, shoes, water, sunblock.

Would be handy if you have them: Rope, helmet, quickdrawers, personal anchor, slings, ATC, chalk, anchors.

Camping: Tent, food, firewood, sleeping bag.

Did some Feathers, played at Sunshine, discovered the Kotick Memorial Wall, lead a few, climbed tons, three people got to clean their first routes. Plus there were free hotdogs for everyone on Saturday night courtesy of the YMCA/Girl scouts

I'll join you, Chris. I was planning on making a nice ride of it, but it looks like the weather is going to be unpleasant this side of the Cascades again.

Ok, sounds good. Can aim for 7:20am pickup, then swing by Belltown for Guillaume.

Does anyone know the distance and terrain from the parking lot to the crags? Just curious what the walk in will be.

    May 17, 2013

    • Julia

The Feathers is just a short walk up a hill. The camping is all around The Feathers. Sunshine wall is a short (maybe 20 minute) hike up a hill. Pretty easy hike, but you have to squeeze through an interesting chimney feature to get there that can be a little tricky the first time with your pack.

Hey guys, just a head's up, there are going to be several of us with babies and little kids at the Feathers this weekend. We'll do our best to stay out of the way of other climbers, just letting you know that'll be going on in case you want to stay away from the Family Circus at The Feathers.
