Camp and climb in 11 mile Canyon

Camp out Friday and Saturday night (or just Sat if you want to drive out Sat morning). Some of us have already booked campsites at Riverside Campground right inside 11-mile Canyon. It was one of the few CGs with space so be quick to book for yourself. Looks like you can get more than 1 tent per site. (Details on how to book will be posted later). There are plenty of sport and trad routes from 5.5 up as well as lots of bouldering spots.

There is also good fly fishing along the South Platte.

A few of us have reservations at the River Side camping area off of 96. If you plan to stay at one of the pay sites, make your reservations quickly as they are going fast. http://www.reserveamerica.com/campgroundSearch.do

There are also free areas near by. See the comment from Simon for more details.

(From Robin)

BETA: Lake George is where you are heading, on Highway 24, 43 miles west of Colorado Springs. Turn left into Lake George and thru it on H 96 and come to 11-mile Canyon, entry kiosk. Riverside Campground is on the left in half-mile or so from kiosk.
Groceries: Starkies back on H24 east of L George. Even better but much further are stores in Divide............and, of course, C Springs.
Restaurants: Not a lot. BBQ place in L George!

No problem and see you tomorrow

Robin, I just unpacked and discovered I have your 4.5 cam. I will bring that tomorrow. I thought Chris and I had sorted things after we came down but we missed that HUGE cam. I'm sorry! The only way that other stuff would be mine is if Chris had it after I left. I have purple and green tape on many of my biners.

    August 21, 2012

  • Robin N.

Agree with Clara - it was not there and Doug and I climbed past that point and were first on the rock.
So, I will find the owner..........nuf said. Descriptor please for any claimants

    August 21, 2012

  • Robin N.

All: It is one of our group protecting the high 'ground' belay for the left-hand 5.8/9, just right of Staircase.
ID the gear please and it is yours

    August 21, 2012

  • Robin N.

It is one of our groups....................hehehe....maybe mine if no claims come forward..............No, I have too much gear.
It was not there before us and if one was trying to protect a short rope/belayer there then there were 1 inch cracks up and right for a bigger nut or cam

    August 21, 2012

    • ilene

I can come climb tomorrow at Riviera and check it out :-). My sore fingertips have recovered!

  • captpadlock

Anyone still needing a carpool? We could use one more person. Leave Boulder 6pm-ish, and to return Saturday eve

    August 16, 2012

    • captpadlock

do you need the carpool on the return only? or on the way to the campsite as well? two would be a bit cramped with all the gear, i think, but i'll let you know if we can make room.

      August 17, 2012

  • Robin N.

Jun, place is trad and sport, mostly one pitch. Bring all your gear depending if you want to lead etc

    August 14, 2012

    • Jun K.

Thanks Robin and Anne, will plan on hitting camp and seeing y'all around then. Look out for a little Asian dude who looks incredibly lost (cause I probably am).

      August 16, 2012

    • Ryan

Hey Jun, where are you leaving from? I had the same grand plans from Denver but didn't wanna drive up solo. I plan on carpooling with Simone but I wouldn't mind getting in earlier

We had a great meet tonight on Bihedral and all looking forward to the weekend at 11-mile. Good camping and camerarderie and we want all to do some fun and memorable climbing. See you all there.

    Chad,
Look forward to seeing you Sat evening and do come and crash on one of the sites.

    Jun,
I think many are going to have a mod late start as routes are close to road....maybe away from camp at 10am, latest

    August 15, 2012

  • Simon

I was climbing there on Sunday and a ranger was buzzing around trying to find the owner of a car that was in the the campground next to Pine Cone Dome. It was not authorized to be there and she was arranging to tow it!

    August 15, 2012

    • Scott

Thanks for the info! If we have to, we can drop a couple cars somewhere in Lake George.

      August 15, 2012

  • Robin N.

Yes, all who want to lead sport or trad please bring your rope and rack.

    August 15, 2012

  • Robin N.

Just carry one rope+ sport Andreas rack into our Dat main crag. Look forward

    August 15, 2012

  • Robin N.

Awed by potential turnout but several of our rrad and sport leaders will get you all onto and off routes

    August 14, 2012

  • Robin N.

Great Ilene and will see you Fri eve.
Doug and I are going early to get beta on crags that I think would be good for our team for Sat&Sun
    Fun and climbing

  • Jun K.

Hey all, looking forward to meet you all. I'm planning on driving up early Saturday and still figuring out the camping situation. I'm trying to get a feel for how much gear I should toss in the back of my car as I don't know the area or what kind of climbing everyone anticipates doing. Suggestions on if I should toss some extra ropes and pro etc in the trunk?

    August 14, 2012

  • Robin N.

Thanks, Edward and I will book one more and we will have plenty

    August 14, 2012

  • Edward

Hay group, I have reserved site # 5, Friday and Saturday night. The site is a hike in tent spot. Other tents welcome. Unfortunately I will not be staying Saturday night.

    August 14, 2012

  • Robin N.

Vlado, I am not sure that you now intend to come to either the Bihedral meet tomorrow or the 11-mile camping trip this weekend - based on your strange and typically unclear posting after the Mountain Rose meet last week. But I want to make some things perfectly clear to you after the unprovoked vitriol and expletive-laden anger you displayed during the M Rose meet. You are neither welcome to climb on my ropes
and gear nor to share in any way the campsites I have already booked or will book at any future meet I am associated with
    Robin

    August 14, 2012

  • Robin N.

I will book a 4th site andletyou know

    August 14, 2012

  • Robin N.

We will fit all on the 3 sites . We want all to be together

    August 14, 2012

  • Robin N.

Plan for climbing venue. And also leav photocopy of map and the guide to crag we will be at

    August 14, 2012

  • Robin N.

Each day I will leave notes on my tent in site 7 or 12 giving plan

  • ilene

If I was to arrive Saturday morning, how would I know where to find the group? Do you know which area the group will be at?

    August 14, 2012

    • ilene

No, I mean what rock to go to, not where the campground is. If I arrived on Saturday you would probably already be climbing!

      August 14, 2012

    • Scott

Ah..I'll get Robin to answer that one. I think he has a tentative plan in place. You can also call me that day but I have no idea if there will be service out there. [masked]

Hey guys, is anyone leaving from Boulder sometime Friday afternnon and would be willing to carpool?

    August 14, 2012

  • Robin N.

Remember: this place is close to 9,000 feet and will be cooler at night, in particular

    August 13, 2012

  • Ryan

I was going to leave Friday around 4 or so from Denver. I can fit 3 others comfortably. I was also hoping to get a spot at the campsite Fri and sat night? I'm flexible and could leave earlier or later so if anyone wants to carpool around that time let me know. Boulder people could park by my place in Denver too.

For carpooling, I'd like to drive up Fri late am (I work late Thurs pm) and returncan Sunday afternoon, and can comfortably take 1 extra person in my pickup, maybe 2 if one person isn't too big (rear bench seat not very padded and not a lot of leg room. Or if I could catch a ride with someone staying the same days that would be nice too. I live in Boulder. Ph#[masked]

    August 12, 2012

  • Chris

I'd like to head out Thurs am and return Monday am. Timing is flexible. I can take at least 2 others +gear. I've bounced around carpooling options with others but nothing is solid, so would like to firm something up. If others are interested in this timing give me a shout.

    August 11, 2012

  • Robin N.

Nicole, should be very good for you - lots of moderate, single pitch, sport and trad in a beautiful environment

    August 10, 2012

  • Simon

I'm not able to make that weekend, sorry I'm out of town. If anyone wants to call me about the forest camping place I'm happy to help if I can. [masked]-9045. Just to be clear, it's just a flat spot in the forest, with a forest road going past. No facilities, normal forest camping regs apply (i.e. Pack-it-in Pack-it-out). You need to truck in water and dispersed camp. I've used it many times and it's great, not crowded, no loud people to annoy you, and no-one around to annoy by being loud! Have a look at the discussion thread linked in my other post in this thread, for more info about how to find it.

Lake George is in Park County, no fire ban exists at this time, so you can have a campfire in the forest. Check updates here http://www.parkco.us/index.aspx?NID=402

If anyone wants to head to 11 mile another time, give me a shout! I'm only 45 mins away and love climbing there. Have fun, climb safe!

    August 9, 2012

    • Scott

Thanks again for the camping beta. Hopefully you can make it out when we do Shelf Road.

      August 9, 2012

  • Robin N.

As per Scott, need to book this campsite. Later today I will find out max number of tents/site

    August 9, 2012

    • Scott

For the pay areas, max of 8 people per site. Max 2 cars per site. Didn't see anything about a limit on tents.

      August 9, 2012

  • ilene

I'm potentially interested but don't understand the camping situation (how to find "River Side camping area off of 96 on the reserveamerica.com web site) or whether reservations are needed for the area Simon wrote about.

    August 8, 2012

  • Scott

I think you can count on a happy hour.

    August 7, 2012

  • Robin N.

Scott just got 2011 guidebook and the climbing looks incredible. Doug and I will go day or so early and I am summarizing best crags and will have beta

Can't wait to go. This will be epic!

Date set for weekend of August 17-19. For those that can't make this time I will likely be putting together a trip to Shelf Rd in Sept/Oct.

If there is enough interest for August 10-12 (or another weekend), someone should definitely post it as a suggested meetup. I will RSVP to help get it onto the main page.
