Vail/La Sportiva Evergold 5k/11k

I got lazy about posting these races mid-season, but since the last one in the series is coming up and a lot of folks seem to be looking for fall races in the mountains, I figured I'd post it up. This race is the Evergold, a 5k or 11k-ish route on the east side of Vail, through the aspen trees above the golf course and onto the main part of the ski area. It's not a straight-up hill climb the way many of the other Vail races are, but you do gain about 1300 feet in the 11k, getting some downhills and cross-country sections along the way, so you'll still be earning miles the hard way.

These races are some of my all-time favorites. The courses are beautiful, the people are awesome, registration is cheap ($28 if you register before race day), and the organizers make sure to take care of you. Your registration includes a tech shirt, goody bag, and breakfast/lunch, and they always give away a ton of free swag at the post-race raffle, so if you stick around for that you have a very good chance of walking away with something. That's especially true at the Evergold since it's the last race of the season and they tend to have a lot of leftover swag to give out. The fields tend to be pretty small as well - I think last year this race was about[masked] people.

All the details are at http://vailrec.com/evergold.cfm, and you can find a Garmin trace from last year at http://connect.garmin.com/activity/115063536

Hope to see some folks there! I'll be in Vail around 9:30 to pick up my registration and warm up (parking is a little tight for this race so you may want to leave some extra time), and will probably be hanging in town afterwards.

Great Race and great people. When I was getting tired towards the end of the race a guy behind me gave me words of encouragement, saying I could do it which gave me that extra energy to finish.
