Doctor Who 50th Anniversary "Day of the Doctors" Special Pub Screening Party

Allons-y! Geronimo!

Fly your TARDIS to Stirling Bridges Pub in Carmichael on Nov. 23 at 11 am to 3 pm, to watch the live simulcast of the Doctor Who 50th Anniversary Special on BBCA!

(The "Day of the Doctors" Special starts at 11:50 am PT.)

The cool British pub has 10 TVs all over the pub (above the bar & in the billiards area) and the restaurant is happily willing to show the special on those TVs so we can try to pack the restaurant with Whovians and take over the establishment! :) Feel free to spread the word!

There will be a TARDIS for picture-posing, thematic drink specials & fine British fare for purchase, pre- & post-viewing games (some with prizes!), and *COSTUMES* are welcome! (We'll do a cosplay contest if enough show dressed up)!

Come for Dr. Who, stay for drinks and lunch!

There's already over 45 people RSVP'd for this fun event on the SacWho Facebook Group page, so I promise you there will be plenty of fellow Whovians with whom to watch!

https://www.facebook.com/events/550752298327827/

RSVP is not required for general restaurant seating and is first come first serve.  All ages, except around the bar.

Question for those of you who saw it in the theaters: how full were those theaters?

    November 26, 2013

    • Julian B.

That crowd at the Century 14 was sure a lively bunch. Even a Dalek in costume posing with people for pics. The behind the scenes featurette was also fun.

At the 7:30 Cinedome show, nearly every seat was full, a great gathering of the tribe :). In addition to that cool Dalek, and a ton of fezes (plural of fez??), there was one mom decked out perfectly as #4, with her young kids as #10 and #11, also totally pro. I wonder how it fared, money-wise, for a one-night event like that. If it was significant, I hope that means more to come.

I'm in Walnut Creek for the cinema screening...no costumes (well, very, very few) and it's so not social like Saturday was!

Sounds like that town needs more geekdom there! (Like Woodland needs more geekdom.) lol

The theater I went to was jammed packed full of Whovians. Lots of people in costume and with their sonic screwdrivers, so it was really cool.

So sorry to have missed this. . . A friend and I went to the showing at Century Cinedome -- a totally ComicCom vibe going on there, it was awesome! -- but would have loved to have seen it at the pub with all of you, as well. Hoping other Whovian group viewings will come along, as we welcome the new Doctor :)

Most fun I've had on a Saturday in a long time.

A very fun event and not just because of an awesome episode! Great to meet more fellow geeks and Whovians in the area and check out a pretty spiffy new pub. Thanks to the organizers for the hard work in setting it up and even stealing a TARDIS for the event!

Well I must say.. as someone who is an I.T. professional that works at home 50+ hours/week, this gathering was the most fun I've had in awhile. I was amazed at the turnout! I'm glad I got there early because the bar filled up fast. Poor Steve (the bartender) did not expect that amount of customers that early in the day. I gave him a nice tip. That was my first visit to Sterling Bridges. I definately plan to go back there on a regular basis. Lots of stuff on the food menu that is worth investigating!

This was the best experience ever. Not only my very first Dr. Who meet and greet, but first time meeting fellow local Dr. Who fans that I am not related to. Thanks to everyone who had a hand putting this event together. Looking
Forward to a possible Christmas get together now?

That was fun! Drinking sonic screwdrivers and snakebite!
    Thanks Steph!

Fyi I dropped into the Stirling Bridges restaurant for the first time tonight on the way back from a dinner party in the area (previously I was relying on photos & info from others since I don't live that close)... anyway, I noticed that there aren't TVs in the main restaurant area as previously thought, all the TVs are around the bar mostly. So come early to get a good seat in the bar.

Anybody who can't make it, see FantomEvents.com for the big screen 3-D show Monday night only. Me and my 12-yr old are going to catch the 7:30 at Century Stadium 14 on Ethan and there's also a 10:00 show.

I'm also doing both, get together on Saturday and the theater Monday night ...plus I'm recording the televised show, so I can watch that later.

Naturally my DVR is set. I've already pre-ordered the 3D BluRay

This will be my first SacGeeks get together as I am brand new to the community. Been a Dr. Who Fan since the series restarted in 2005, but I have watched as many of the old shows as I can. Really looking forward to this and meeting a bunch of fellow Whovians.

Big Update! We'll now have a full-sized TARDIS (pictured above) on site, for picture posing! And don't forget, a costume contest!

If the corrected start time is 11:AM,
What is the end time for this MeetUp?

    November 17, 2013

    • Lon

Well shi... drat. I can't be there. I have to run the bookstore that day until 6:pm.

      November 19, 2013

Phooey. Just leave a box & price sign on the register, honor system style. You know, because humans are so trustworthy and we live in a honorable society.

      November 19, 2013

  • Steph of w.

Updated to correct the time in one instance that said 11 pm, when this is actually supposed to be 11 AM.

    November 15, 2013

    • Steph of w.

Remember, the show is being simulcast. So due to time zones, while it'll evening prime time in the UK, it's going t to start 11:50 AM (before lunch time) in the US.

      November 15, 2013

    • Steph of w.

In fact, the restaurant is opening early for us. You can come as early as 11 AM to hang out. Kitchen should be open around 11:30 AM.

  • Lon

I'm going to try to make it to this meetup.
