“Best of Geeky Sacramento” premieres at Sac‐Con on June 3.

What is the “Best of Geeky Sacramento”? That’s exactly what is exploring in a series of
summer‐long projects and events!

Kicking off with a fun audience‐participation panel discussion at Sac‐Con on June 3, “The Best of Geeky
Sacramento” project comprises of a community‐nominated “Best of” voting contest over the course of
the summer, and a collaborative collectible playing card project featuring some of the best “geeky” and
“geek‐friendly” businesses, organizations, and artists that Sacramento has to offer.

"Best of Geeky Sacramento" Panel Discussion

The panel discussion, entitled “What is the Best of Geeky Sacramento?”, will be held at 4:30 pm at the
Scottish Rite Center across from Sac State. It will feature local special guests facilitating a light‐hearted
discussion on what it means to be a geek, particularly in Sacramento, as well as other aspects of
geekdom. The event will include giveaways and prize drawings, including the Best of Geeky Sacramento
card decks, a Starbucks gift card, a This‐n‐That Thrift gift basket, Movies on A Big Screen tickets and
other surprises.

Expected special guest panelists include Jeffry‐Wynne Prince of The Kimberly Trip, Nick Pettigrew of the
Comedy Spot show Critical Hit, Robert Berry of, Luis Perez of Decepti‐Kon Convention,

"Best of Geeky Sacramento" Playing Cards

The "Best of Geeky Sacramento" card project is a collaborative art and creative marketing project by 54
"geeky" and "geek‐friendly" businesses, organizations, and artists in the Sacramento area. Each unique
playing card represents a participating group, among which are such notables as Stage Nine, Big Brother
Comics, Warp 11, Fringe, Capsity, Sacramento Pirates and Ladies of Steampunk.

The card project, including the full list of participants, can be viewed at The
website also list discounts that can be obtained by bringing in collected cards to various participating
shops and events such as Empire’s Comics Vault, This‐N‐That Thrift, Midtown Village Café, Sac‐Con and
Shannon McCabe’s Vampire Ball. Participants will be offering other tie‐ins, promotions and contest
throughout the year. Collecting has its privileges!

The participating groups will be giving out their individual cards at various events and locations
(including the June 3 Sac‐Con) and fans can collect the full 54‐card deck by visiting them all and keeping
an eye out around town. There will also be special opportunities to obtain full decks and win limited
edition boxes.

"Best of Geeky Sacramento" Awards

The series will culminate with the "Best of Geeky Sacramento" voting contest in an effort to identify and
award the "Best of Geeky Sacramento". Ten categories have been defined that span the many aspects
of geek culture, among which are:

 Best local comic book writer or graphic artist
 Best local geeky club or social organization
 Best gaming or hobby shop
 Best place for a geeky date

Nominations can be submitted at . Nominations will be tallied
and then the community will be invited to vote among the finalists. The winners will be honored during
an Award Ceremony party later this year.
