Rock Quarry Trail to Boot Buster Hill - with Kick A** Hill Add-on – ADVANCED

The hike is located on Highway 49, 1/4 of a mile from the green gate that leads to Training Hill.

Much of the beginning of the trail is easy going on flat fire road. It links up to other trails as part of the Auburn State Recreation Area (ASRA).

After a short distance, the beautiful American River becomes visible as we traverse up a fairly short incline to meet with the switchback dirt hiking path of the PG&E road trail which leads to the rock quarry.

The short part of the trail leads us to fascinating and stunning views of two towering rocks. At this point, we will have two options - the advanced option is the Boot Buster Hill. We have yet to gauge the steepness, length, and elevation gains of this hill but it is indeed strenuous, so be prepared for a good work-out.

The intermediate option is to go to the left of Boot Buster Hill, where the incline is less strenuous. Both paths meet at the top, for awesome views of the American River.

After our return trek, for those that are up for an additional challenge, we will cross the confluence and head up Kick Ass Hill, cross the Forresthill Bridge, and come back down the Bridge View Trail. This is a nice little add-on.

Total mileage will be approximately 8 miles.

Please bring plenty of water, snacks, a headlamp or flashlight, and gloves. Trekking poles are optional.

Driving directions: From Hwy. 80 East, take the Elm Ave. exit in Auburn. Turn left at the stoplight. Make another left at the next stoplight. Follow the signs for Hwy. 49S, towards Cool. Continue on Hwy. 49S down into the American River Canyon. At the confluence, make a right, cross over the bridge, then start looking for places to park on the right side of the road, right after the green gate(#150). It is free to park along here. At the Quarry Trailhead there is also parking, but it costs $10. The Quarry Trailhead is about 1/4 mile up the road from the green gate (#150), and on the opposite side of the road.

Another wonderful evening hike with wonderful people. Congrats to our two Whitney summiters - Joanne and Marla. Great job, ladies. Hope to see everyone next week.

Hi. Got back too late from a Dr.'s appointment (now 5:25)... so won't be able to make it this time. Probably will have to settle for Miner's Ravine tonight. See ya soon.

    Hi Cheryl
After looking forward to this all week I have decided to drop off the hike today. I might have injured my little toe really bad after a 14 mile hike on Sunday shoes too tight apparently.. (not a rookie mistake the shoes were fine for 3 previous hikes).. Have to go in to get the toe Xrayed .. Will see what happens after that. Next week hopefully I am back on the trail. Will meet up then. Have a great time..

Oh, sorry you can't make it. We repeat some similar combination of this hike every Wednesday, so you will have many opportunities to join us. Take care and we'll see you another time.
