Upper Stagecoach to Kick A** Hill + Training Hill - Advanced

Up for a midweek hike workout that's better than the gym?

We'll start out on on the Upper Stagecoach Trailhead, located on Russell Road. When we reach the confluence, we'll cross the road, do a quick jaunt up Training Hill and back down, then cross back over and head up Kick Ass Hill.

These are a series of continuous hills with grades from 10 to 40 degrees up and each one is a climb that stretches from 30 to 70 feet in length.

As the title indicates, this hike is classified as advanced and all hikers are expected to keep up with the group's pace. Kick-a** Hill represents a challenge to most particularly if they haven't done it before. The group generally waits for everyone at the top of the hill then continue by crossing Foresthill Bridge and coming back up Upper Stagecoach.

Bring plenty of water, snacks, headlamp, poles if you have them and gloves to prevent slippage and most important, a happy attitude.

TRAILHEAD DIRECTIONS: Take I-80 towards Reno and exit at Lincoln Way in Auburn. Turn right at the stop sign, then left at the next street, which is Russell Road. Go down Russell Road, approximately a mile and you will see parking spaces on the left hand side of the road. Parking here is free.

Total mileage is estimated to be between 8-9 miles and approximately 3(+) hours.

Just when I think it can't get any better........this hike and this group are unbelievable! What a special bunch! Love the combination of Kick-Ass and Training Hill and will miss the star gazing as summer approaches, but I imagine many more adventures await us all.

Humid in March! It's gonna be a hot summer me thinks. Loved the pizza, cake, and the company too, not so much the slimy crawly things though...thanks again all. Off to Hawaii for some beach time :-)

That trail is properly named. That was definitely a good workout. Thank you Jody for the poles. Happy Birthday again Ken and thank your wife for the pizza and carrot cake cupcakes. A welcome sight at end of that hike. Thanks Cheryl for arranging and leading us. Does anyone else have trouble sleeping after a hike like that? It was about 6 am before I was able to sleep.

Put me up for the challenge. I actually never have trouble sleeping but the few times I hiked after dark affected my sleep that night. Oh well, I actually feel fine this morning without sleep and pain free. See you next week.

What a great hike. This group continues to be the best therapy for an upper and Ken's wife toped it with carrot cake to start the hike and the surprise PIZZA party at the end.

Wow - can this hike get any better?! Pizza AND wonderful homemade carrot cupcakes waiting for us at the end. That was absolutely awesome. A special thanks to Ken's wife, Deb, for that! We had an fabulous hike - complete with awesome weather, a couple of great hills, some impromptu stargazing and, of course, a great group of hikers. Thank you all for coming out and making this such a wonderful evening hike.
