openSUSE is the "open source" version of SUSE Enterprize Linux.

openSUSE Leap 16 is one of the biggest shifts in the SUSE ecosystem in years — bringing:

  • the new Agama installer,
  • Cockpit-based administration,
  • stronger enterprise alignment,
  • Wayland-first desktops,
  • SELinux by default,

and a growing focus on:

  • containers,
  • immutable systems, and
  • AI workloads.

This session takes a practical, real-world look at:

  • what actually changed,
  • what works well,
  • what still breaks, and
  • what longtime Linux admins need to know before deploying or upgrading.

We’ll cover:

  • Leap vs Tumbleweed,
  • YaST changes,
  • Packman realities,
  • btrfs/snapper recovery,
  • Wayland pain points,
  • container workflows, and
  • live demos of modern openSUSE administration tools.
