Sunday 20 June 11 Mile Walk Win Hill

Details

Please note that few members of this group are on meetup hence there will be few attendees listed here

Here are the details for next Sunday’s longer walk
Walk distance - 11 miles
Walk grade – C
Total ascent – 1800 feet
We start from Hope Station car park from where we ascend gradually at first across fields, and more steeply later over moorland, onto the summit of Win Hill. From here we head north west along the gradually descending ridge to Hope Cross, from where we descend further into Woodlands Valley. We then follow a track overlooking Ladybower Reservoir all the way to the dam, from where we ascend gradually above the Derwent Valley following paths across the fields back to Hope Station.
Much of the walk is on good tracks, but there is a steep ascent of Win Hill, and some strenuous walking on paths that are rough and uneven, crossing steep ground. Several stiles and kissing gates.
No dogs.
Coffee and lunch breaks planned.
Meet Brooklands Station Approach 08.35 onwards for 08.45 departure in shared transport
Start point – Hope Station car park, Station Road, Hope, Derbyshire.
Postcode – S33 6RD (not a precise location)
What 3 words – activism.difficult.spring
50 minutes drive to start point. If going direct please be there by 09.35. We will start the walk at 09.45.
To park at Hope Station, you need to pay by RingGo app – there is no alternative. Parking costs £2.20/day. We recommend if you don’t already have the RingGo app, please download it and register before the day, to avoid any problems.
Directions
Take your preferred route to access the A6 at High Lane. We use the A555 ourselves.
Follow A6 through High Lane, Disley, Furness Vale to Bridgemont
Continue with A6 signed Buxton on Whaley Bridge by pass
Cross roundabout in approx. 3 miles
In 200 metres take left hand slip road signed Rushup, Edale then turn left
Follow approx. 4 miles. Ignore left turns for Edale & Blue John Cavern.
Shortly turn L down Winnats Pass for Castleton. Proceed through Castleton and Hope villages on A6187.
Beyond Hope village, ignore L turn for Aston village. Take next L for Hope Station.
Parking both along Station Road and at the end by the station.
Parking is limited and may fill up early on a Sunday. Hence the early start time from Brooklands. If all parking spaces are already taken, it may be possible to park on the next lane leading off the A6187. To enable this, return along Station Road to A6187. Turn L and follow 0.25 mile. Turn next L onto lane which leads to an industrial estate and eventually to Aston village. It may be possible to find space to park considerately along this lane.
Post walk
Post walk refreshments – to be decided on the day - Old Hall Hotel & Woodroffe Arms are both in the centre of Hope village.
