Do you self-identify as a "skeptic?" If so, how did you come to see yourself as one?

I tend to refer to myself as a "soft atheist" -- the qualifier "soft" is added because I'm something of a postmodernist, philosophically speaking. So while *I'M* 100% convinced there's no god-thing, I'm not cheeky enough to pretend that I have access to whatever IS or IS NOT Objectively True. And hell, I'd love to have my metaphysical beliefs turned on their head by a bona fide freaky experience...who doesn't love a saucy little personal revelation (or even revolution) here and there? I'm 42, though, and haven't experienced anything to give me pause about my current beliefs, so I'm stickin' with them until I have reason to reconsider ("reason" being the operative term).

I moved to SLC (from San Diego) for work a week ago, so I thought I'd put out feelers in the freethought community. I'm generally a hermit, but thought I might actually *need* to actively seek out people around whom I don't have to censor myself....
