Mudslinging among prominent skeptics seems to be on the increase. One of our goals at Salt City Skeptics is to foster openness to evidence while practicing courtesy. This includes not engaging in ad hominem frays. We happen to think that that's a better way to win minds. We do not presume, of course, to dictate anyone's personal policy. There will be neither tribunals nor excommunications resulting from unbridled tongues. The worst you need fear is that some of us may avoid sitting next to you at Drinking Skeptically.
Yesterday I weighed in on the out-of-control fray du jour only in hopes of correcting erroneous notions about marketing. If you're interested in my take on marketing pink products to girls, click here. You might also like this one, from last summer, having to do with real versus imagined threats from marketers. (I know, I know. You may think that I am only defending myself and what I do for a living. Yeah. So?)
I hope to see you at the Beer Hive Pub this coming Tuesday, January 10. We call the gathering "Drinking Skeptically," because that's shorter than "Sitting Down with Fellow Creatures Who Enjoy Rational Thought While Multiple Simultaneous Conversations Meander Where They May." We meet downstairs at the Beer Hive, 128 S Main, Salt Lake City. We usually get started at 7-ish.
Hope to see you then.
