Evolution of the Universe

SDARI (San Diego Association of Rational Inquiry) is hosting Dr. Lisa Will for the February lecture. Her talk will include a discussion of the big bang, dark matter, and inflation.

Dr. Will is a physics professor at San Diego City College and the resident astronomer at Reuben H Fleet museum. She earned a Ph.D. in physics from Arizona State University in 2000, where she was a visiting faculty member until 2008. Her research includes investigation of the nature of dust grains in space and innovations in astronomy education.

SDARI holds monthly talks and discussion groups centered around skeptic and science topics on the 4th Sunday. It is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting rational thought and education in the San Diego area.

Please note: The entrance to Joyce Beers Community Center is between two restaurants, Aladdin’s and Panera Bread. The address 3900 Vermont Street should be the most accurate for GPS directions. There is free parking available in the underground lot across the street (behind and under Ralphs / Trader Joes). Parking in the above ground lot is limited to 2 hours and cars are ticketed / towed for infractions. If you have any questions about where to park or how to get there, please reach out in the comments below or send a meetup email to the host.

I'll get in on one of these things soon enough. However, my Sunday nights are at the mercy of True Detective for three more weeks.

I may be making the long drive back from my trip to AZ that afternoon, but there's no other group of people I'd rather see after getting into town. And this discussion sounds really interesting. Hopefully I can time my return to coincide with the start of the event.

So is there going to be a meetup afterwards? I'd be willing to hang out and chat a bit after the lecture.

We typically don't schedule a separate meet up for it, but we do often go to Bino's afterward for coffee (and yummy crepes)

This sounds absolutely fascinating! But we'll be out of the country! Hope there are more events like this after we return next month.

We've got a full line up for the next couple of months, Nancy. Have fun on your travels!

I would love to go to this event. I have a friend visiting from out of town that weekend though so it may not happen.

Bring the friend! Our lectures are typically 60 - 90 minutes and there is a wonderful crepe place just a short walk away for coffee and food after. If not, we'd love to see you next month (which should be exciting as well).
