RSVPs are OPEN up to about 70! Meetup sometimes doesn't show "# spots left" anymore.
Another Very Popular MBay DeAnza Cove FREE Potluck BONFIRE SOCIAL! Celebrate TGIF with some of your Meetup group friends, some hikers/explorers and also many members from six other very active social Meetup groups this afternoon/evening.
Remember, there will be non-secular people from those other meetups attending as well.
Grab your beachchairs, nice potluck dish and utensil for it, your BYOB sodas in a cooler, a warm jacket, flashlights/lanterns and some firewood appreciated if you can!
Main courses or big entrees are best for this potluck group, bring something that YOU would like to eat, so then you know it will be there.
Please specify what you are bringing in your rsvp, you can update it later in comments here. If you need ideas, plan something YOU like or stop by Costco and pickup a party tray or their spiral turkey sandwiches, chicken tenders, etc.
Maybe someone can bring a large pot of very hot water for instant coffee, chocolate or hot cider packets and hot beverage cups. If so please specify that in your comments here, thanks. BYOB sodas!
Dress appropriate for the weather, any rain in the morning Friday cancels this event. Have warm jacket/warm clothes in your car just in case!
No alcohol (or glass) is officially allowed on City beaches, they do sometimes come around and check.
Get on down to De Anza Cove for this Social Potluck BONFIRE with mature convivial "Friends", some Active SD 40+ Boomers dancing around the fire, and a bunch of potential new members from other convivial social Meetup groups. There will be many non-secular people from those other meetup groups attending as well. Please be tolerant of non-seculars!
Plan your pre-cooked dish unless you also bring a small BBQ for it, or someone offers to bring a BBQ which would then be posted here in comments if so. Take a look at comments to see if anyone is bringing a BBQ.
Potluck is about 5:30pm on but come as early as you want for best parking, help setup or hold the fire ring and maybe walk a few miles along beautiful Mission Bay while there. There is a permanent small iron pedestal BBQ nearby with iron grill that needs cleaning before use. Come early if you want to check it out and bring the charcoal, lighter fluid and grill brush.
I will go very early and try to get the furthest West double picnic tables and closest fire ring. ( The Sun sets in the West, for non-scouts ) Walk the sidewalk to the NorthWest end and then look for us at the picnic tables and fire ring nearby.
Notice: the powerful lawn sprinklers may possibly come on sometime after 9pm and soak the grass and picnic tables area, so let's put all leftover food and dishes/utensils/bags away in cars well before then and move everyone's chairs over to the sand close around the fire-ring after dark and before 9pm!
The sprinklers did NOT come on for six months, but they did come on in January about 10pm and managed to sprinkle a few people by the grass. Did NOT come on in Feb, by 10:30 anyway.
Hanging around the picnic tables/grassy area after 9pm could possibly get you a bit soaked! Only fun if it has been a very hot day! So sit close by the fire ring away from the grass.
Coming North on H-5 take Clairemont Dr offramp and turn West, crossing 5 and then turn right onto E Mission Bay Dr. Go to De Anza Rd.
Coming South on H-5 you may take Balboa/MBayDr offramp( or if very heavy traffic at Balboa ramp just continue South on 5 to Clairemont Dr ), proceed straight on Mission Bay Dr thru six stoplights before taking sharp right turn from right lane just before entering 5 South again, West into N Mission Bay Dr, turn right at stopsign and go North to De Anza Rd.
IF you miss that sharp right turn and end up on H-5 South, you can still take the next offramp Clairemont Dr and get on E Mission Bay Dr going North along there to De Anza Rd.
^^ Our Silver Star mylar balloon to look for on umbrella top, or hanging on chairback after dark by our West-most fire ring.
