Re: [atheists-518] Used computer desperately needed

Couldn't help but comment on this. I have replaced a broken mac screen for a friend before. It is a little bit involved, but definitely doable. Total cost including replacement screen from Amazon and tools was around $100. I think I still have the tools, so I'd be happy to provide those. I can volunteer my services to do the replacement itself, but I'll only be able to do this over a weekend...I'm ridiculously busy on weekdays.

Finally, all the detailed instructions you'll need with photos can be found at http://www.ifixit.com/. Just look up your model #.

Good luck! And please let me know if I can help.

Vivek

Hi Tara,

I have a pretty nice Mac laptop we were looking to get rid of. It's even laser engraved. There is a catch though, the screen is broken. I've looked into what it would cost to replace it, and it's within your budget. $100 for the replacement screen and a bit more for labor unless you want to try to do it yourself.

SDNA Community,

Hi, It's Tara.

I'm emailing you all because I seriously need to upgrade my computer. I'm in school full time and it's not realistic to get my homework done with this ten year old Dell laptop. It has no battery, the '2' key sticks and the OS is a pirated copy of XP professional that I can't update. As I write this, it is struggling to run Open Office and Firefox at the same time.

Would anyone out there like to help me get into something better? I have money to spend. I Could go down to the Office Max and spend a dear two hundred bucks on a stripped down mini notebook but I'm hoping one of you may have a burly used laptop to sell me instead. (Windows 7 and a graphing calculator a bonus).

Bear in mind, I am a poor as hell college-type person. I won't be able to buy your super duper used macbook for $500, I just don't have it.

Email or call  if you have something for me

Best and Kindest

Tara
