Re: [atheists-518] Don't believe in God? Speak out!

Dear Debbie,

Here is my letter to the editor. Have you written yours yet? I hope someone among us heathens gets published!

Dear Mr. Breen,

With all due respect, there are many people in India and other parts of the world who think that you are crazy for believing in only one god. Furthermore, ASU physicist and public intellectual Dr. Lawrence Krauss has written a new book, entitled A Universe from Nothing: Why There is Something Rather than Nothing, which outlines a plausible model for a universe that spontaneously arose without a deity, creating its own physical laws in the process. Note my use of the word "plausible." The fact of the matter is, no one knows what kind of gods exist (if any): we only know what kinds of gods don't exist. You see, science has already disproved any god that answers more than two percent of prayers (vide The Language of God, by Dr. Francis Collins), as well as any god claimed to: have supernatural control over the weather; physically hold up the planet; cause insanity; etc. So, that leaves us with a personal god (or gods) who only care about us enough to respond to less than 2% of supplications on the lives of the seriously ill, a Deist's god who doesn't care about us at all, or no god whatsoever as the only possibilities. Take your pick!

Rick Stravinsky had an excellent editorial in yesterday's UT about the secular community, and specifically referenced the San Diego New Atheists and Agnostics.

and today, Steve Breen took a stab at us with his cartoon.
