Spy Thriller, "Blood and Gifts" PLUS Foodie Friday at the La Jolla Playhouse!

The last meetup at the La Jolla Playhouse was so much fun, I am excited to announce another one! This show will be in the Mandell Weiss Forum.

The show starts at 8:00 pm, but June 22 hosts an extra fun happening before the show beginning at 6:00 pm...

The La Jolla Playhouse is kicking off its spy thriller Blood and Gifts with pierogis, beer and some good old fashioned American BBQ! Buy a ticket to this performance and come early for complimentary microbrew tasting from Stone Brewing Company, starting at 6:00 pm. Plus the Pierogi Truck and Chop Soo-ey will be there to serve up dinner before the show. Food prices range from $5 to $12.

Named One of New York Times Top Ten Plays of 2011!

“American playwright J.T. Rogers' Blood and Giftsis a real rarity. He takes a subject that seems like the stuff of PBS or dry policy papers — Afghanistan in the 1980s — and crafts a smart, intellectually stimulating, and just-plain entertaining spy thriller. A.” - Entertainment Weekly

Blood and Giftstells the story of the secret spy war behind the official Soviet-Afghan War of the 1980s. Spanning a decade and playing out in Washington DC, Pakistan and Afghanistan, the play offers up a slice of historical fiction laced with dark humor, as it follows the character of CIA operative Jim Warnock and his struggles to stop the Soviet Army's destruction of Afghanistan. The ground constantly shifts for Jim and his British, Russian and Pakistani counterparts as the political and personal alliances between the men keep changing. In this thrilling, high-stakes game of cat-and-mouse, Blood and Gifts depicts the unknown men who shaped one of the greatest historical events in recent history, the repercussions of which continue to shape our world.

UPDATE: I talked to the theatre and they have extended our discount ticket sale deadline to Wednesday, June 20 at noon. If you want to go to the show, please buy your ticket by then and if you know someone outside the group that may be interested, help spread the word!

Please RSVP for you and your guests when purchasing tickets, so I know whose going. Thank you!

Since we will be attending as a group, the Playhouse has generously given us 30% off the regular priced tickets in Area 2. They have set aside 20 seats together, but there is no cap on this performance. Once we are close to filling all of the allotted 20 seats, they will release more to our group. So invite your friends! The more the merrier! If you want to be sure to be seated with our group, purchase your tickets, as soon as you can to be part of the original 20. Otherwise, we will have time to meet and greet before the show.

$25.20 + $2.00 facility fee per ticket = $27.50
