Any events that are not hikes or walks

When I joined a few months ago I was under the impression that the group goes out and finds interesting places around san diego. All the events I've seen lately are hikes and walks. Is the main goal of the group just hiking?

I would like to go out to Campo and explore the train museum and truck depot. I did this when my kids were little and it was fun and interesting. not really urban but there are not a lot of abandoned buildings that I have noticed. There used to be quite a few old Victorians in downtown SD in the 90's but alot were rehabbed.

As we speak, treasures like the WW2 bunkers near BFSP are being destroyed by the Department of Homeland Security. San Diego is a city in flux. Give us some ideas Zane, and we'll check them out. Leanne, the academy you mentioned near Elsinore is very intruiging. You ought to set it up.

In the beginning we had a lot of leaders who took charge leading outings and knew lots of places to go to explore. While those leaders are still (for the most part) in the group, they've pretty much explored in all directions.

If there were a few NEW member/leaders who were willing to step into those roles, we would have more exploring type outings to participate in.

As Nathan has mentioned above, some areas that we previously explored are off limits or gone, like the...
Airforce Tracking Station:

Atlas Missle Test Site:

Take some planning and are technically off limits (the dam):
Lake Hodges Flume & Dam Exploration:

More planning:
Banner Mining Exploration:
Etc., etc.

If you go back through the calendar, you will see many places we've explored in the past, that either took a lot of planning or are currently either off limits or no longer in existence. There are quite a few places that are probably due for a revisit if someone would take the lead in putting an event together.
Dig back several years in the calendar and you'll find some worthy places to explore and also a lot of photos we took at those locations.

If you'd like to try your hand at setting up an outing to anyplace off the beaten path, contact me, Nathan, Dr. Dave or any of the other event organizers for assistance or guidance.

Since the calendar is difficult to check out going back in time...try looking through the photo galleries starting here:

You can work your way through all 10 pages rather quickly AND see where we've been over the last 7 years (at least the places we took photos at, which is most).

If something you see interests you, bring it up to discuss.
