Relay for Life of Pacific Beach

Relay for Life is a volunteer, community-organized, 24-hour event. Relay For Life teams take turns walking around a track for 24 hours - because cancer never sleeps, each team is asked to have at least one participant on the track at all times. This year the event will be held at Ski Beach on May 17th and 18th. It's an alcohol-free event that features music, health and wellness classes, and family-friendly activities.

With the support of thousands of volunteers, the American Cancer Society is helping save more than 400 lives a day. The Relay For Life movement offers an inspiring opportunity to honor cancer survivors, promote how individuals can reduce their cancer risk, and raise money to help end cancer.

I havent done this before, do u know if you have to join a preexisting team? And do you have to raise money?

Hello Laura: Please see above. While the goal is to fundraise for American Cancer Society, we also would just like to invite you to participate in the event. All you have to do is pay the registration fee and check it out.

I have the same question. Am I joining as a participant on a team or a volunteer? Thanks.

Forming a team and joining as a participant requires the same registration fee, so my suggestion is that maybe Laura can form a San Diego Young Philantrophists team (and act as team captain) then everyone else registers as participants on that team. This way, you have the option of camping on the bay on the day of the event and you get a personal fundraising page. This will also give SDYP great exposure to recruit more members.

As far as volunteering goes, we certainly have enough opportunities for registered participants to take part in putting the event together. I hope this clarifies things. Let me know if you have further questions!
