Veteran intellectual property attorney Dr. Colby will discuss the top intellectual property related mistakes made by businesses and in particular startups. The top two being related to “ownership.” Ownership deservedly occupying the top two spots because of the many ways in which IP ownership can derail a company.
Other common mistakes include waiting to secure IP rights, a lack of strategy and a lack of understanding of patents.
The presentation will be directed at founders and executives of early stage companies and will give attendees an introduction as to how they may avoid these critical mistakes.

About the Speaker:
Dr. Steven Colby is a partner and an intellectual property attorney at Rimon Law. He focuses on early stage startups and develops IP with a view towards increasing company valuation.
Dr. Colby received his Ph.D. from Indiana University at Bloomington, where he focused on the development and design of scientific instruments. He has over 40 published scientific papers and abstracts and holds several patents.
Prior to becoming an intellectual propery attorney, Dr. Colby was director of product development for a scientific instrument company. His professional background extends to software and hardware development, website development, manufacturing management, electronics, sensors, measurement devices, control systems, mass spectrometry, chromatography, and bioanalysis.
