What we're about

Meet other local people who are interested in learning and practicing Nonviolent Communication™. The San Diego Nonviolent Communication Group envisions a world where everyone’s needs are met peacefully. Our goal is to contribute to this vision by living and teaching the process of Nonviolent Communication™, which strengthens the ability of people to compassionately connect with themselves and one another, share resources, and resolve conflicts.

"Nonviolent Communication (NVC) is a mindfulness practice of attending to the way we use language -- not just in speaking, but in how we listen and the meaning we make of what people say, especially when they express blame, pain and anger. Incorporating NVC into our worldview involves learning both to connect to the deep longings and values that lie within our words, thoughts, and actions, and learning what core beliefs and common habits of speech create disconnection.

As we become familiar with these concepts, we learn to notice them everywhere, and to understand the relationship between our body sensations, our emotions (feelings) and our needs. In NVC we learn to translate our & others' judgments, blame & criticism into unmet needs, helping us connect to the humanity of others rather than blaming them for the flawed strategies they might use to express distress. A committed practice of NVC takes on-going long-term learning and immersion to change deeply wired habits of language and behavior."
