We'll be walking up and down the famous Mount Nebo Stair Trails next to Downtown La Mesa. The total distance is only about a mile and a half, but there are lots of STEPS, so the pace will be quite slow. There are good views from some places.

We did this hike on November 19, 2015. For information and pictures, see www.meetup.com/sandiegodayhikers/events/226823731 (https://www.meetup.com/sandiegodayhikers/events/226823731/). We did the hike again on January 5, 2017.

Wear good walking and stair-climbing shoes. It probably won't be necessary to take water or snacks, because this is a short hike. A little bit of sun protection is recommended. Take a camera if you wish.

Some of the stairs run very close to private homes. Please avoid boisterous behavior that might scare the residents.

We'll meet at 9:00 AM at the La Mesa Depot Museum at 4695 Nebo Drive, La Mesa CA 91914. It's near the corner of Nebo Drive and La Mesa Boulevard (N 32 45.861 W 117 1.212). We'll step off at 9:15 AM.

The museum won't be open, but there are some old locomotives and things on display to keep you entertained while you wait.

Unmetered street parking is available on Nebo Dr. a block or two south of the museum. There is a large municipal parking lot about a block north. The San Diego Trolley (Orange Line) stops at the nearby La Mesa Boulevard Station. MTS bus number 7 also stops nearby on Allison Ave. There are public rest rooms at the La Mesa City Hall about two blocks north.

After the hike, there will be an optional coffee klatsch at the Starbucks on La Mesa Blvd. near University Ave.

There will also be an optional second lap for those with lots of energy. Last year, I offered this option mostly in jest, but quite a few hikers did the second lap. I did not lead the second lap, but I gave my trail map to the de facto leader of that group.

Leashed dogs are allowed.

RAIN? SHMAIN! Since this hike is entirely on pavement, we can hike in the rain. Only a major storm will make me cancel the hike. You must make your own go-no-go decision. There are no penalties for no-shows.
