North Fortuna Mountain from Portobelo Dr.

This hike is about 6 miles and 1000ft ascent. From Portobelo Dr. to North Fortuna Mountain and looping back, avoiding the trails closed for water tank construction. The trails are quite steep in places, but the view from the summit is worth the climb. North Fortuna is one of the peaks in the Five Peaks Challenge. Hiking poles recommended for steeper descents. We did a hike similar to this in May 2019. Leashed dogs are permitted.

This hike will be on FRIDAY due to forecast heavy rain on Tuesday.

The nominal starting time is 9:00am, step off at 9:15. We should return around 12:30. Meet at 10962 Portobelo Dr., San Diego 92124

SUGGESTED ROUTE FROM SAN DIEGO: From 805 take CA-52 East and exit on Santo Rd. Turn right, then left at the light onto Portobelo Dr. Park along roadside by mini-park.

Take good hiking shoes, water, sun protection and a snack for the summit.
