SpaceX Rocket Launch Complex & Hangar, Surf Beach 8 Mile Hike & Explore

This is a backup plan in case I have to reschedule San Ysidro Falls, Montecito Peak, Hot Springs Hike to another day due to rain and group well being concerns. Surf Beach is a shorter and relatively easy hike, and on sandy beach & dunes, much less possibility for slip & fall.

I am fascinated and captivated by life within the context of the universe, and therefore also with our collective effort in space exploration - a beginning step of life going beyond the confines of Home Planet Earth and its atmosphere.

SpaceX rocket launch is getting relatively consistent with scheduling. The next launch from Vandenberg Space Force Base is scheduled on Sunday, Nov 16 at 9:21pm. However, due to safety precautions, Surf Beach will be closed that day. What I want to do the day before is hiking to see the Falcon 9 rocket being prepared for launch, and the adjacent hangar complex. I have done those a few times before, but not recently.

Trailhead: Surf Beach Parking Lot

Distance & Climb: up to 8 mile, 600’

Experience & Skill: uneven terrain hiking, casual & fast pace sandy beach walking

Ability: assess and manage risks effectively, carry on meaningful conversation

Supply & Equipment: rain coat, umbrella, binoculars, camera with telephoto lenses, adequate hydration, food, headlamp and windbreaker as needed for potential night descent and cold windy conditions

Physical & Mental: healthy & fit for strenuous hiking & exploring adventure, mentally & emotionally sound

Personality & Character: upright, authentic, sincere, down to earth, enthusiastic, cheerful, good sense of humor, cordial and pleasant to chat with, effective in communicating

Mindset: adventurous yet very safety conscious, self responsible & self accountable, intellectually curious, having sense of adventure, independent thinking, open-minded worldview, proactive, ongoing self improvement & can do attitude
