We'll hike uphill from Bienveneda Avenue to the Temescal Ridge fireroad, continue another half mile to the Skull rocks and caves--yes, there are a bunch to play on and in. PLAYING ON THE ROCKS IS OPTIONAL. YOU CAN JUST SIT AND ENJOY THE VIEW. Then we drop down into Temescal canyon to the conference center area and continue east over the ridge to Rivas Canyon. Then we get to Will Rogers State Park and hike to Perspiration Point and collapse on the ground. Then we go back to Start, COLLECT $200, mostly the way we came.
DISTANCE: ABOUT 9 MILES, elevation gain: about 2 light-years. OK, I don't know, I'm too lazy to look it up
OK, after some pestering, I looked it up: from the start, we gain 750 feet to Skull Rock using the Leacock trail and Temescal Ridge. After we drop into Temescal Canyon, we gain 400 feet to just above the big underground water tank, then we drop into Rivas Canyon and gain 400 feet to our summit in Will Rogers Park. On the way back we gain 550 to the Rivas/Temescal divide, then 500 on the way from Temescal to Bienveneda. So that's at least 2600 feet.
OPTIONAL DINNER AT THE REEL INN (at Topanga Canyon and PCH) and sunset watching
DIRECTIONS: Take Sunset Blvd. in Pacific Palisades to Bienveneda Ave; follow it north to the beginning of the gated community and park on Via Floresta or Bienveneda.
NO DOGS ALLOWED--PARK RULES, not mine
I'M NOT YOUR MOM, BRING ALL THE USUAL STUFF... hat, water, hiking shoes, all your troubles, annoying screaming family members, etc. Bring musical instruments if ya got em: I frequently try to entertain you guys with "songs", and if you have little shame, too, we can jam.
