What plants and animals have you seen in your backyard?

I grow a number of native plants in my yard in Somerville, MA; including Joe Pyeweed, Swamp Milkweed, Echinachea, Rhudbekia, Solidago (Golden Rod), Wild Asters, Solomon Seal, Violets & Viiolas, other native wildflowers and more. These natives attract many species of good insects (bees, small wasps, lady bugs) and of course some bad insects. Monarch, Painted Lady butterflies, and song birds also visit.

What have you done to help them and encourage more?

I continually add new varieties of natives, let the plants self propogate via seeds and roots. And add organic compost.

What are your favorites? Got pictures? Share them!

Variegated Solomon Seal, Milkweed, Joe Pyeweed, violas. Chicadees, Northern Juncos, Cardinals, White breasted nuthatches, Mockingbirds

My passion encompasses a love of nature and it's flora and fauna, professional organic gardening, helping people get organized and recycle their papers and unwanted items, plus a concern for the environment. I look forward to participating. Judy
