To keep this event in the calendar please RSVP if you are intending to come.
The meetup is open to all, including those that have never climbed before and would like to try the sport. Note that there may not be an event host for this event every week.
If you are a complete beginner or needing signed in please post a greeting below to say you are new and come a bit later (any time after 7PM) when people will be around to sign you in, just ask at the desk for the climbing club. You are recommended to bring a water bottle.
At Climbzone climbing is done via an autobelay system, a top roped metal wire that you attach to your harness that has a little upwards tension on it. Once you have climbed it gently lowers you to the ground. It's childs play... ;)
There are a wide range of well set routes at all levels, from Beginner/3+ up to 7b. Due to the nature of auto-belays you get as much time as you want on a particular route so it's great for technique and stamina training. As the night progresses and people tire we generally congregate around a few routes and offer "encouragement" ;) There are generally climbers of all abilities so it's a good opportunity to get tips from more experienced climbers.
Cost including equipment hire (shoes and harness if required) :-
• £6 - for existing Ibrox GCC/Braehead Members
• £7 - for Non-Members
• free - for GCC season ticket holders
More information at http://climbzone.co.uk/prices-passes/
If you have some experience of climbing but not at Braehead you will either need to be signed in (see point above) or if you can demonstrate putting on a harness you can become a member of the climbing centre (free for life membership). If it is your first time at Braehead you will also need to do a one off 10 minute induction by the staff on using the auto-belays - ask at reception.
See http://climbzone.co.uk/membership/ for full details.
Children aged between 7 and 16 are welcome on the condition that they must be signed in by a parent or guardian who is already a member of both the club and the climbing centre and they take full responsibility for them while climbing. Also (taken from the climbing centre website) "they are clipped and checked before every climb by the member."
Note that people generally drift in between 6PM and 7PM and climb until we get chucked out at 9PM.
