Tuesdays are no longer nights of no SHAG climbing!!
The Climbing Centre have a night for members every Tuesday and Thursday. This is open to all members of the climbing wall, not just us. You have to be able to tie your knots, belay and look after yourself to attend.
Joe (GCC staff) will be at the cafe at 8pm to meet and pair people up. He will be available for an hour or so to do some movement coaching or give you tips on belaying or improving your skills if you're a bit rusty. There are also leading ropes available to borrow (although Joe will not teach brand new leaders - he is happy to help you brush up on your skills if you've done a bit before).
And of course all the usual stuff applies....
This is only for members who can belay competently* (i.e. members of the Glasgow Climbing Centre).
* If you are not in this category we will have climbing 'taster' sessions for complete beginners every few weeks, after this you can either choose to do the climbing introductory course at the Glasgow Climbing Centre or speak to one of the organisers about being signed in as a guest and learning to climb that way *
Indoor climbing is a good way to develop strength, stamina and co-ordination. It's also fun. You don't need to be a seasoned climber to participate, and there are routes for all levels of climbers to try.
We'll be at the Glasgow Climbing Centre on Paisley Road West.
For anyone who's not visited before, you'll find directions on their website here (http://www.glasgowclimbingcentre.com/contact_us/directions.php).
A virtual tour of the main climbing area can be found here (http://www.pikodesign.com/tour/gcc/). Photos of a previous trip can also be viewed here (http://www.meetup.com/scottish-hillwalkers/photos/750662/).
As well as the main area, there are also several bouldering areas, an additional top roping area and a training room.
How much does it cost?
Full details can be found on the GCC website here (http://www.glasgowclimbingcentre.com/prices_and_times/prices.php).
(Equipment hire is also available - you will need rock boots and a harness)
Who should come
To use the facilities at the climbing centre, you must be safe and competent at climbing and belaying (see above).
