Novice and Re-entry dive with Ryan!

Are you a new diver or new to diving in Monterey Bay? Are you a bit out of practice and nervous about getting back into the water? Do you want to dive again but are afraid you may hold others back? Then this is the dive for you! I will be running a regular dive geared towards beginner divers and divers who want a relaxed re-introduction to diving. I will keep these to small groups to allow us all to focus on gear prep and safety. The main goal though is to have a relaxed, unhurried event, and most importantly to have fun! Once in the water we will spend some time adjusting weights and practicing buoyancy if anyone needs it, and then we'll enjoy a couple great dives! Bring equipment enough for two dives, and bring lots of warm drinks and clothes if you plan on diving twice. We will take about an hour between dives to discuss, decompress and decide how we can improve the next one. Things to remember: buddy checks, buddy signs, dive plans, how to keep warm, what to do if you lose your buddy, how long your safety stop lasts... ...all basic diving skills we too often forget. Let's dive safe. And of course let's remember to relax, have fun, enjoy the critters, laugh and enjoy the day. We usually grab a bite to eat afterwords for anyone interested. IMPORTANT NOTE: Please update your profile to indicate you have read and agree to the Waiver and Release of Liability form. You must complete this step before you can join us on a dive. I'm looking forward to seeing everyone there!!

Ok, I've obviously stolen the intro from the Wombat...thanks Rachel!

We will be doing 2 dives: Bat Ray City and the Metridium Fields

Gear, gear, gear!  Monterey diving is more gear intensive than warm water diving!  Renting or owning, check your gear out...tank seals, buckles, straps, weights.   Hook it all up, try it on and make sure it works...missing a dive because of bad gear sucks.  Speaking of weights...the rule of thumb is 10% of your body weight plus 10 pounds.  This may sound like a lot of weight but it's better to be a little heavier than not sink.  So, 10% of your body weight...this need to be accurate (e.g. not based on your divers license or the last time you went diving).

Plan on the first dive being around noon with the second around 1400.

I'll provide my phone number so that we don't miss each other when you've RSVP'd.

See you on the bottom!

I recently got my PADI dry suit certification and this dive was my first to try it out in a mellow setting with absolute calms seas, sunny skies and a good group. Nice one Ryan! Thanks for the help, advice and related dive tips-tricks and gear discussions. The dry suit experience just made Monterrey a bit more like Fiji. Fantastic!

Two great dives. Metridium field was beautiful. There was a lot to see around and along the pipes. On the equipment side, I used both dives to experiment with weight levels. Buoyancy control was so much better with less weight. I used steel tank (Faber 80 steel). My first dive was with 20lbs and the second, with 16lbs.

I'll be parked on the North end of the parking lot above San Carlos beach (opposite side from the Coast Guard pier). I have a large maroon Dodge truck...made all the more noticable by posting 2 yellow fiberglass poles with orange flags. Just over 24 hours away...sweet!
