iTecSD and iPubSD are exciting new groups now in the planning stages...
The current parent organization of SDiOS (SDMUG - the San Diego Macintosh User Group) has approved a major restructuring that will make SDMUG a Special Interest Group (SIG) just like our SDiOS (http://sdios.org) group, the video production group (SDMVPUG (http://sdmvpug.com)) and the Mac 101 beginner group are now. The new top-level organization will be iTecSD - Apple Technology Enthusiasts of San Diego - and all SIGs will be tightly integrated within this larger group.
iTecSD general meetings will be held quarterly as large events with high-tech/high-profile presentations - and participation / paid membership in iTecSD will be strongly encouraged in all the SIGs. SDMUG currently pays for group liability insurance for all the SIGs - and their official 501(c)3 nonprofit organization status is what allows our SIG meetings to be hosted at the UCSD Extension. A strong link between iTecSD and its SIGs will ensure that all SIGs share some of the cost and enjoy more of the extended benefits of the enabling top-level organization.
The scope of iTecSD will go way beyond just the Macintosh to the entire extended Apple ecosystem and even outside Apple altogether for some of our educational and other community service outreach. The high-energy of the larger general meetings will be attractive to all the SIG members as a place to extend face-to-face professional and social community networking beyond the smaller groups within our SIGs.
We hope to officially launch iTecSD with its first quarterly general meeting in September 2013.
iPubSD - Publishing/Advertising SIG - Starting Right Now!...
To help promote the iTecSD top-level organization and to strengthen the tight integration of the SIGs, we are forming a new SIG right now - iPubSD - dedicated to web publishing, social media outreach, direct email communications and other advertising media publications. This will be a learning and networking group like the other SIGs, but it will be specifically tasked with supporting/promoting iTecSD and all its SIGs with all its publications.
So we are now looking for passionate community members to take leadership roles in iPubSD:
Moderator - organizes the iPubSD SIG meetings and its publishing tasks;
Graphic Designer - designs the iTecSD logo, website, general look/feel and other graphic aspects of iTecSD and its SIGs;
Social Media Coordinator - manages all forms of social medial outreach (Meetup.com, Facebook, Twitter, etc.);
Web Architect - designs the structure of the website shared by iTecSD and all its SIGs; and
Marketing Director - leads in the production and distribution of media blasts, copywriting, blogging, and all media outreach.
Of course those with lots of experience in these skills are highly desired, but this is also an excellent opportunity for students and other young ambitious folks to get some real world experience in promoting a significant and exciting new organization in our community!
Anyone interested in any of these positions and/or becoming founding members of iPubSD, please email: [masked] .
